Hi to the list. I just posted the following message on GenForum, and
request help from this forum as well. Thank you.
According to the death certificate of Julia Springfield, daughter of Mary
Chambers, Mary was born in GA. She married Frank (Benjamin Franklin)
Springfield in the late 1850's. Julia was born in 1860, the oldest child.
Information furnished for the death certificate by a son of Julia.
I need some help with this one!
I have looked at all the Chambers in GA, AL, TN, SC, etc in 1850 for a
14-17 year old female, with little success. Nothing fits all the criteria
of her being born in GA.
Some think that the Mary Springfield b Jul 28, 1835, d April 1, 1905 in the
Fitch or Faubus Cemetery, on the Yell-Perry County Line in Ark, may be this
Mary. But, even if she is, it soes not help me with her parents!
Having looked at all the "Mary's" in the states mentioned above, I have a
short list of possibilities, as follows:
Mary E. 17 born in AL, dau of Thomas and Mary Chambers of Henry Co., Ala.
Mary, wife of (George Chambers) in 1850 Cobb Co Ga. (she is 16 here)
Mary in Milton Bacon's boarding house in Troop Co. GA. (she is 17 & born in
AL)
Mary in Gwinnett Co. GA in household of Archibald Dunlap (hard to read, but
she is 16)
Mary, 17, daughter of Elizabeth, 47, in Smith Co. TN
Mary, 17, dau of John, 50, of Williamson Co.
There were only six Chambers in GA in 1840 with daughters between 5 & 10.
Martha and Rebecca as head of household in Wilkes, Jesse M. and John T. as
father in Carroll, Jonathan and Joseph as father in Chatham.
Mary is my 16th of 16 gg grandparents for whom I cannot identify parents.
This should not be so hard for someone who should be named in the 1850
Census. Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated. Ed Crump in LA
