Hello Chambers list,
I am really enjoying compiling all the recent posts to this list. I have
yet to find any connections to my own line of Chambers. Some posts,
however, are getting close.
My line apparently descends from Phillip Chambers, and his wife Saloma
Clubb, and starts in, or around Rowan County, NC, in the late 1700's.
The Chambers family then were found in Oconee County, SC, in the 1790's
and were very actively involved with the Holly Springs Baptist Church
there, where the Church record states a founder was Barak Chambers, son of
Phillip, in 1828. The first two generations of Phillip's family were
active in the Holly Springs church, and some Chambers are buried there.
From there the families migrated to, and through Georgia to Alabama, and
beyond. The census of 1860 shows Lamech, son of Barak, with his wife, and
children in Dawson County, GA. The 1870 census shows Barrack and Lemuel,
sons of Lamech in Dawson County, with their families. From there they
migrated to Marshall County, AL.
My own great grandfather was Richard, son of Barrack, who married
Malinda Kuykendall in DeKalb County, AL. Richard died abt. 1900 in
Marshall County. I have yet to locate his gravesite, although I now live
in Marshall County.
Richard's son, Pat Chambers, was my grandfather in DeKalb County. He
died there in 1932, on the day of my own birth.
I have much data and documentation on this line, and names of all
children and extended families. I would be happy to share any data with
other researchers, and would appreciate any input as to connections to
Phillip, Barak, or Lamech's lineage. I am in present contact with others
who are also researching this line.
At this point I have Phillip born about 1740-47, possibly Maryland or NC.
He resided in Rowan County, NC, and died after 1830. Barak was born in
1792, in either NC or SC. Lamech, born 1814, in SC.
Much credit goes to Dr. Roger David Chambers, author of "Phillip
Chambers, A Southern Tradition",pub. 1972. The history is no longer in
print, however Dr. Chambers has supplied me with much documentation and
factual data on Chambers, and allied families.
I hope to find connections through some of the Chambers researchers here.
Best wishes and good hunting to all,
Doyle Chambers, Marshall County, AL
