What level of DNA are you contemplating? I have a 67 Marker test but not of this line.
Reason for asking is that the bottom two tests, 12 and 25 marker, are not of significant
use whatsoever as they are to broad spectrum that even an exact match covers nineteen to
twenty generations and of such wide genetically to include connections well beyond record
availability. For instance, when compared with my BATES family at these levels, there are
over 200 "Hits" at 12 and 150 at the 25 marker levels. then, when compared with
the entire FTDNA database, the 12 marker comes out at 2000 plus and the 25 marker at 730
hits. In both of these two tests, several of the recorded "hits" show for both
of the known BATES family lines that have been almost completely debunked for a connection
within recorded history with the high probability that the actual connection may be before
1000 AD. Against the entire database, it shows connections with family names that, so far,
are not within our database going back to fifth and half fifth (considering multiple
marriages) cousins.
Now accord my 37 and 67 "Matches" and it breaks down such that there on only 5,
up to 4 off, on the 37 against the database, only 1 on the BATES family, while only 3, up
to 7 off, on the 67 against the database, 1 exact and 2 at 7 off.
Our BATES Family FTDNA Group coordinator has compiled a list, with marker identity, of
over 200 individuals who have subscribed to the group which includes both directly
associated names, about 10% not direct BATES names, so we have a fair DNA database samples
for comparison though with almost half of them in the 12-25 marker range.
I would strongly suggest the highest test you can finance with the present top being 111
markers while they are talking about a future extension.
I do not know about the Family Finder FTDNA test for accuracy but its accuracy is highly
dependent upon the number of peoples who have filed a GEDCOM with them for comparison and
evaluation. I presently have the Ancestry FFDNA and to date there have been over 250
"cousin matches (from 4th to 8th cousins)" of which the fourth cousins is the
only one of significance because I only have maybe three or four spousal lines that are
recorded back that far. Even then I have yet to connect with any other researcher who can
show positive results for even a possible connection much less a probability.
What I am saying, is use any type of DNA results as a "Point Of Reference" for
doing research toward discovering your connection with the rest of your ancestors.

Thanks Connie. I do believe that Benjamin Ross George is the father of Mary Jane. I am
planning on having DNA completed. Maybe this will show something.
