I note the following will in early Sussex Co., NJ:
CHAMBERS, Joseph. 1050S - W. 13 Jul 1805; 3 Sept 1805. Son: Samuel (a minor). Others: His
father, Samuel CHAMBERS of Walpack; Margaret MARVEL (rel not stated); Christeen MARBEL
(rel not stated); sister Jane ROBINSON; bro, James CHAMBERS, and James' son, Joseph
CHAMBERS. Executors: Aaron DRAKE and Margaret MARVEL. Witnesses: John DEPUE, Jr., Daniel
ENNIS and Aaron VAN CAMPEN.
I see that James Chambers, a son of Samuel Chambers, had a son named Joseph.
A Sarah married an unknown Mr. Chambers, lived in Bartholomew Co., IN, and had the
following children:
i Joseph, b. Feb 29, 1792 in New York [or more likely New Jersey], m. Sally Gibbs on Mar
31, 1815, d. Sep 1, 1853
*ii Miner, b. ca. 1797 [in Pennsylvania], m. 1st, Mariah Lee on Jul 11, 1818; 2nd, Amanda
Cotton on Dec 30, 1846, d. before Apr 18, 1853
iii Thomas Whiten, b. 1802 in Canada, m. 1st, Lucy Nighswonger on Mar 18, 1828; 2nd, Nancy
Jane Moss on Sep 14, 1831; 3rd, -- in 1869, d. Apr 13, 1873
iv Amanda, b. Feb, 1806 in Canada, m. Henry Carson Andrews on Jan 23, 1823, d. Jan 29,
1875
v Sarah, never wed, d. in childhood
While in the 1850 Census Joseph indicated he was born in New York, two of the three sons
of Joseph Chambers in the 1880 Census indicated that their father was born in New Jersey.
The other said in New York.
Minor Chambers indicated in 1850 that he was born in Pennsylvania,so a line may be drawn
toward Walpack, NJ, as a possible homestead for this Chambers family.
James Chambers, the brother of Joseph, both sons of Samuel Chambers, had a son named
Joseph who may have been the Joseph Chambers who married Sally Gibbs.
This would mean that the father of Joseph,b.1793, was James who was a son of Samuel
Chambers or Shammers.
James then married Sarah.
The first child born to Joseph Chambers, b. 1793, and Sally Gibbs was Daniel James
Chambers whose name may be a combination of his maternal grandfather's name, Daniel
Gibbs, and his paternal grandfather James Chambers.
