My grandfather Charles P. Chambers of Sidney, Nebraska was born 12 November
1958 in Clay County, Indiana, the second child of Jobe Chambers who was born
18 April 1837 and Mary Ann Jones from Warrilshire in England born 9 June
1838. I can remember being told that Jobe came from New Jersey and I have
been watching for a Jobe Chambers. You list "Job Stephen Chambers" as a
brother of John S. Chambers. This is not quite the same spelling, but is
close, and is the first one of a name like that I have run across. I would
be very interested in anything that might establish whether Jobe and Job
Stephen were the same. Jobe was reputed to be well educated for the time
and something of a scholar. My grandfather Charles P. Chambers was a school
teacher, county superintendent of schools, judge, title company owner and
cattle rancher and was known for being a rather strict teacher who saw no
reason why a person should not get something right the first time.
Thank you
Robert Rood Chambers, born 23 May 1923

Subject: Re: John S. Chambers(abt1800 to 1870?)
Hello,
I am looking for information on John S. Chambers, born in NJ to Daniel
Chambers and ?. Daniel and his family moved to Huntingdon Co., PA about
1818. John S. Chambers moved back to NJ when he was older. I have found a
John S. in the census index for 1830-Hunterdon Co., NJ- Trenton City and
for
1840, 1850, 1860 and 1870 in Mercer Co.,NJ- Trenton City but with
different
ward numbers for the individual years.
Daniel was born 1763 to 1773 in NJ. He had a brother William born
1775
and a brother Stephen born 1790 that we know of so far. May have been
others.
Daniel"s, William's and Stephen's father has been
given as Stephen
Chambers who enlisted with LaFayette in France and came to serve in the Rev
War with him. He supposedly took land ion NJ for pay.
John S. Chambers had six brothers (George, Daniel, Lewis, Job Stephen,
Isaac, and James Hay) and seven sisters (Phoebe, Sarah, Nancy, Mary,
Carilla,
and 2 that died young). Any information on this family would be
greatly
appreciated. TIA
