Elinor Fulkerson Chambers married (1) Dereck (Dirk) Fulkerson who died about
1765. The firsr name of her second husband is unknown. Her will, dated 1781
Guilford, NC names the following children;
Mary Fulkerson
Elinor Fulkerson m.William Mount
Frederick Fulkerson m. Elizabeth Potteger 1799
Abraham Fulkerson m. Sarah Gibson 1788
Sarah Elizabeth Fulkerson m. John Stewart
Thomas Chambers
It would appear that Thomas Chambers was the only child of her second
marriage.
Thomas Chambers is found in deeds in Rockingham, NC 1787-1811. He appears in
the 1790, 1800, and 1810 census of Rockingham, NC and the 1820 census of
Allen Co. KY. His earlier locations are unknown. There is a chance that he
was a member of or connected to a Chambers family in Lancaster Co. PA. This
family were millers both in PA and VA.
He married (1) Phebe (deed Thomas Mullins to Thomas Chambers and wife Phebe,
20 Feb. 1791, Rockingham, NC.)
In 1818 he transferred land in Allen Co. KY to Charles Hannah, husband of his
daughter Elinor (Nellie).
Thomas Chambers died in Allen, KY in 1820.
In 1825 a guardianship settlement identified Frances Chambers as the wife of
Thomas Chambers. This document also names Frederick and Jincey Ann Chambers
as the "youngest" children of Frances Chambers. This could indicate that she
had children by a previous marriage, or that the other children of Thomas and
Frances were of legal age. With no marriage records we do not know which of
his children were children of Phebe and which were children of Frances.
An Allen County Court Record of 10 Nov. 1834 lists the following children of
Thomas Chambers;
Elinor (Nellie) Chambers m. Charles Hancock Guilford, NC 21 Mar. 1807
William Chambers m. (possibly) (1)Hannah King Rockingham, NC 13 Oct. 1808
and (2) Sally McReynolds Allen, KY 18 Aug. 1825
Lucinda Chambers m. Frederick Carpenter
Lucy Chambers m. Thomas Oliver Allen, KY 02 Mar. Allen KY
Frederick Chambers m. Matilda Sutton Allen, KY 22 Mar. 1830
Jincey Ann Chambers m. Richard Horn Allen, KY 26 Mar. 1833
Allen County records are limited and this is a scenario of people with the
same name in the same place at the same time. I should especially like to
learn the name of the father of Thomas, and the surnames of his wives Phebe
and Frances.
I will be happy to share further information on the descendants of Elinor
Chambers Hancock.
