Hi,
I'm reseaching the John Talbot Chambers family of Appleby, Ontario. John was born
about 1769 it appears in Pensylvania, and he seems to have been in the household of John
Chambers [Sr.?] of Jerusalem, Yates Co., New York, during the 1800 NY Census. We assume
that John T. Chambers was the son of John Chambers of 1800 Jerusalem, NY.
John T. Chambers married Jane McCormick in New York and arrived in Ontario, Canada, by
about 1803. According to the 1861 and 1871 Ontario Census reports, their eldest daugther
Anne Chambers-Land was born in the USA in 1802.
The History of Yates Co., NY, says that John Chambers [Sr.?] had a son unnamed and
daughters Anne Chambers-Briggs and Polly Chambers-Nichols.
According to a descendant of one of the Chambers daughters, John Chambers, Sr., and a son
named John Talbot Chambers removed from Yates Co., NY, about 1803 and went to Ontario,
Canada.
Anne Chambers married Stephen Land the son of Abel Land who owned property in Barton,
Wentworth Co., Ontario, which is next to [Dundas,] Ancaster, Wentworth Co., Ontario.
About 1803, or so, it appears, a John Chambers purchased land in Ancaster from Jemima,
Sarah, and Mary Johnson daughters of Brant Johnson, which was Lots 53/1, 53/2, and 54/1.
This John Chambers sold these lots to Edward Peer and Harker Lyons who came from New
Jersey and who were brother-in-laws.
Any information about John Chambers who owned property near Dundas [Wentworth Co.],
Ontario, and John T. Chambers who lived in Appleby [Halton Co.], Ontario, a few miles
away, is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
