I have a POSSIBLE connection. There is a James Chambers in the 1850 census of Fannin,
Texas with some Chambers children & some Smith children (children of 2nd wife Mary
(maiden?) Smith). I believe that the boy mentioned in that census, Andy, 13, born in
Indiana, is Andrew Jackson Chambers that married Susan E. Joice in Phelps, Missouri.
Andrew appears next to "my" William Chambers in the 1870 Phelps, Missouri census
- although the right age to be a son, he is not. I thought to look in Texas for Andrew
because some of his children thought he was born in Texas, although Andrew usually said
Indiana for the census. I also tried Fannin, Texas because Elijah Sutherland is there in
the 1850 census. Elijah Sutherland married Margaret Chambers in 1835 in Putnam Indiana
& my William Chambers married Matilda Justice in 1836 - also in Putnam, Indiana.
Elijah Sutherland & William Chambers are on the same page in the 1840 census of
Putnam, Indiana.
1860 census of Fannin has M. Chambers (James' widow) & more; Sutherland's are
now in Hunt, Texas.
Let me know if any of these names ring a bell.
