A recent posting caught my attention as I'm trying to find the parents of my
g-g-grandfather. According to census information and his tombstone, he was Lewis or Louis
Chambers and was born around 1828. He was known as Lewis or Louis Chambers but his son,
Willis Sylvester Chamber named his only son George Lewis Chambers, which leads me to think
perhaps his name was George Lewis Chambers. Two census reports I've found say
Lewis/Louis was born in NJ. However, his son, my g-grandfather (Willis Chambers) said his
father was born in PA.
Our line came on to Iowa and Louis/Lewis Chambers died November 2, 1911 at about 83 years
of age and is buried in Roberts Cemetery in Adair County, IA, with his second wife Sarah
Ann Everitt Fox Chambers. Sarah's first husband, Dixon Fox, died and she later married
Louis Chambers. I have copies of the pension information as she had 4 Fox children, Louis
also had several children from a prior marriage, and then they had 2 children, one being
my g-grandfather. I have pictures of the tombstone that was erected later by family
members.
His son, my grandfather George Lewis Chambers, was born 10/30/1894 in Greenfield, Adair
County, Iowa.
