I have gathered a little information on Rowland Chambers in an effort to identify a
connection to my David Chambers who was in Martic Township and then Drumore Township,
Lancaster Co. during and after the Rev. War.
Rowland first appears in Cecil Co., MD in 1719 when he buys the land from Abraham
Hollingsworth. That land is sold to a David Chambers (also of Cecil Co., MD). This
couldn't be my David who was probably born about 1755 and who died in York Co, SC in
1807. The above-mentioned David subsequently sells the above land to Robert Holy in 1744.
Rowland shows up in other Cecil Co. land records, buying and selling land; he also
received a land patent. Dates are 1729, 1737, 1723 and 1739. One parcel of land in MD is
named "Mt. Joy".
Rowland then receives a warrantee of 150 acres in Lancaster Co. (later in Dauphin Co.) on
Nov. 1742. A David Chambers receives a warrantee in Lancaster Co. in Feb. 1744. Rowland
then shows up in 1753 deeding to Arthur Chambers in Derry Township the 1742 land grant,
now designated as being in Derry Township, Lancaster Co. That same plot of land shows up
in Arthur's estate, being sold by widow, Jane in 1777.
Egle's Notes and Queries show a Rowland or Randal Chambers dying in 1748 and lists
children John, Arthur, James and Robert.
I don't know about William or Edmund and I still haven't found the connection for
my David, who by the way had a brother William. They married sisters, Martha and Mary
Wharry, whose father, John and grandfather, Thomas, were in Drumore Township, Lancaster
Co. I have researched many Chambers' in Dauphin Co., Northumberland Co., Lancaster
Co., MD and Philadelphia. So far no luck. I would always appreciate any possible clue.
