Subject: Cotton family genealogy
Dear Brenda,
I am writing in the hope we might be able to help each other in our family
research. My great grandmother was Rosa Cotton. Rosa married Joseph
Branum
(or Brannum) in Scott Co., TN in 1895. Unfortunately, Rosa died in
1916
when
my grandfather was still a small boy so he knew little of my Cotton
roots.
Through stories of my father from his childhood, my grandfather made trips
to
Scott Co in the 1940s and 1950s in search of his family. On one of
these
trips he discovered his uncle (Rosa's brother), John Cotton living near
Oneida, TN. From this information I have theorized that Rosa's father was
Tasmon Cotton (Whitecotton), son of Capt. Wayne Whitecotton. Tasmon did
have
a daughter named "Rosetta", but her age is a little to old
to be my Rosa
(according to census and others records I have located). I am hoping you
might be able to help me solve this mystery. I am 99.99% sure of the
linakages I have made, but I would feel much better with some firm proof.
I have posted my gedcom also at rootsweb (complete with my
Cotton-Whitecotton
lines as I believe they are), you may find some of this info af use
to
you.
I look forward to exchanging ideas further.
