My ggf James Clifton Chambers was b 1838 in Georgia. His father was from SC. My earliest
Chambers is Moses Chambers b abt 1798 in SC and first located in Polk Co. Tn in 1830.
According to DNA I'm related to the Chambers of Cades Cove, Tn., ie, Lafayette, Moses,
Charles (also my gf's name) that settled in the area in the early 1800's.
According to my cousin, his grandfather told him that Chambers and other families from
upstate Ga., SC. and Burke Co. NC migrated into Boonesville Ky and that some of them
rafted down the Ky and Tn rivers and settled in Tn. I've been able to determine that
this is accurate from Cades Cove Chambers relatives and the Trails of the Century Chambers
History. Also according to my grandfather, he says our family migrated into NC and SC
from Pa. I've not been able to prove this nor have I been able to determine my gggf
who was bn is SC in the early 1800's. I believe that Moses was my ggf's uncle. In
1776 a Benjamin Chambers married an Elizabeth !
Clifton in Bertie Co. NC but can not locate any information concerning this family. Any
help from anyone??
My ggf lived in Hancock, Oglethrope and Elbert County Ga and served in the Greene Co. 55th
Infantry during the Civil war.
Thanks,
Randy
