Hello Randy ( & Chambers group):
I was interested in your Chambers posting regarding families headed by Isaac,
Jacob, John, and William Chambers of SC. There were Chambers families having
these same names of 1800 Kershaw Co., SC, which appear to be the same families
listed in the 1790 census of Claremont Co., SC. However, you apparently
mention these same names for Chambers families in 1790 and 1800 Newberry Co.,
SC, and I am wondering if they might not have common origins. Have you been
able to find any information on the Newberry families before 1790, and do you
know if they are related to the Kershaw Co. families with the same given
names?
The 1800 Kershaw Co. families are the same persons as the Isaac, Jacob, and
John Chambers found in the 1810 & 1820 census of the Mississippi Territory in
Jefferson and Wilkinson Co. My ggg-grandfather was William P. Chambers, born
in MS on 18 July 1806. I believe that he descends from one of these families,
but I have not yet been able to figure out which one.
These families apparently moved from Kershaw Co., SC, to the MS Territory by
way of Tennessee, as Jacob Chambers, Jr., married Elizabeth Hope in Davidson
Co., TN, on 7 Jan. 1809. I see that the Moses Chambers of interest to you was
also in TN at one time. I have a good deal of information on these Chambers
families of south MS and north LA following 1810, but have not been able to
learn much about them from earlier in SC. Can you or anyone else in the group
give me any additional information? My best regards, Ron Bullock
