Message Board Post:
Thanks for posting this. Very interesting. My first thought was: "Did
Rowland/Randle Chambers leave a will or estate settlement and would they identify the sons
and daughters?"
My source for Maj. James Chambers as the father:
Kittochtinny Magazine, vol 1 #1, p. 136-147, at the Chambersburg Library, said the four
sons (James, Robert, Joseph, Benjamin) came to PA ca 1725; Benjamin settled in the 1730s
on Falling Spring at its joining with the Conococheague River and later laid out lots
there that became Chambersburg; the four daughters with their husbands and children were
all early settlers on the Conococheague.
A daughter, Rachel, married John Jeffry/Jeffries before 1749 when son Benjamin was
born in Ireland. If this is so, it would mean Rachel did not immigrate in 1720 with her
brothers (and father Rowland?) but came later.
Lets hope further records will turn up!
Ruth
