So the article in the Kittochtinny Magazine has these same children under a Maj. James
Chambers. I think you're right that finding a will or probate records for
Rowland/Randle in Lancaster Co. should be able to settle the question. Those late 19th
century books on county history can be a gold mine, but occasionally they got it wrong.
My ancestor b 1743, being named Rowland Chambers would seem to argue for his being
descended from the Rowland/Randle in the book, but I still don't know who his father
was. And Rowland may have been a common name among Chambes families Obviously there is
more work to do.
I have a number of unresolved issue in Franklin Co. - so much so that I figure I'll
need to make a trip there and do some digging. I may need to include a side trip to
Lancaster Co. I'm not sure just when I'll do this, but I'm developing a list
of things to explore. This one will be added. (I'll dig on line as well -
occasionally that can turn up actual records.) If I find anything I'll let you know.
