NO! they cannot be stopped because to do that would effectively permanently close the
List.
This is happening to ALL lists at differing times and not just to Chambers and is part of
a SPAMMERS SHOTGUN broadcast of spam material and it is up to the receiver to discern what
is happening and DESTROY them WITHOUT OPENING or REPLYING to them. The coordinator can
block the individual but that will also be all but useless because the spammer probably IS
NOT on the list and relies on an internal APP (also called virus or worm) that reports
activity back to him/her.
I have made it a policy in my research to:
1. If there is no SUBJ line then it is trashed IMMEDIATELY WITHOUT OPENING.
2. If there is ANY question on an unopened file (from a merchant/manufacturer/government
office you do not use/ or subj line gibberish or mangled phrasing), it is IMMEDIATELY
trashed.
3. If the heading looks good and when I see the body having only a some inoculous message
about "Must See" then it is IMMEDIATELY TRASHED.
4. If the heading AND body look good but it REQUIRES you to go to an imbeded link, then
it is immediately trashed and I contact the originator for instructions to their
FRAUD/SPAM department for their investigative pursual. AFTER forwarding the email to the
appropriate address, both emails are trashed.
5. After all the above, I EMPTY my trash file immediately following putting something in
of this nature in there.
Please do not take this out on the Coordinator as he/she has little control since the true
originator usually has very little connection with the email's heading though there is
a possibility that some kind of notification virus may be attached to the email's
illegal use of a personal/corporate identity that notifies someone, usually not the actual
originator, that an addee did something with the email. This includes just about all
readdressal options but particularly the REPLY options, of that email. This is what the
spammer WANTS, beyond clicking on the embedded link, to get receivers mad at whomever
coordinates the list/bulletin board/etc etc etc. and REPLY so he can GET YOUR EMAIL
ADDRESS for use on later broadcasts.
Please be of HELP to the coordinator(s) and remove such things from your inbox without
taking ANY ACTION on them whatsoever.
