Dear list,
I have a sad bit of news, Mae Dillon Moore passed away last night. Anyone
who has ever researched in Franklin County either knew her or has surely at
least come across her name. You could not have opened any of the Raney
Collection books without seeing her work. She was a wonderful lady & I will
miss her very much. As of this morning the plans for burial are incomplete.
Oakey's South (on 221 in Roanoke) is handling the burial, so you can call them
if you are interested in attending the funeral. (540-989-3131)
Mae was working on publishing a 3-volume book on the Dillon family. Two of
the volumes are complete, but at this time I can't say what will happen with
the 3rd volume. I have part of that work and know of another person who was
also helping Mae to complete the third volume.
Mae's research was throrough and well documented. Her attitude in genealogy
influenced much of my own work. She was a mentor for me and I will miss
sitting down with her and laughing. I have lost a wonderful friend.
Sincerely,
Leigh Blount
