Dear Nicky,
I've been researching CHAMBERS ancestors and am intrigued by your posting of 2003!
Assuming you are still interested in the surname, I thought I'd just touch base. My
Chambers ancestors go:
1. John C., possibly b. 1710, no idea where
m. Ann Loomer or Lomer North Hayling 1745
2. William C. b 1746, m 1778 Ann Ireland, d 1791 Hayling Is.
Ann's brother Samuel (1755-1806) is a mariner, his will 1806 leaves his boat to his
nephew
3. John C., mariner, b1788 Hayling Is., m 1811 Portsea Ann Heath, d. 1825? Admon 1825.
John has brothers William (1779) and Michael (1789)
4. John C., tailor, b 1814 Hayling, m 1838 Portsea, d 1902
I mention these because the Portsmouth area and the Isle of Wight is fairly abundant in
Chambers! and it may help you disentangle this from the various other threads.
Best wishes
Nick Hofman,
