I have tried Harold and also, the cousin referred to him as Louis......though on all the
documents I've found, death, birth, SS application, he is referred to as Harry. I
have searched Louis as well with no luck.
According to the cousin, Harry/Louis was born in Russia. His mother died shortly after
his birth and her older sister, Ida Friedman and her husband Morris Schwartz, adopted
Harry/Louis in Russia and shortly after that went to England where he was educated until
he was about 10 and they left England and came to the states for her (Ida) sisters were
already here. They settled in the Cook county area of Illinois.
Again, all of the documents refer to Harry and indicate he is from England.
Richard Hirsch is the son of one of Ida's sisters according to his note and his
family either were already in California or went there soon after his birth or arrival
here.
I have searched all immigration papers and found a couple that 'could be' that
family crossing. Also, according to Richard, Ida had obtained citizenship and died in
Chicago in 1936. I have not been able to confirm that or even find her for certain even
in census records.
I have searched every nuance in his notes, in every area I can find to search, and so far
I have not found one thing that substantiates anything he says. That is certainly not to
say that I don't believe him, just that I cannot prove or disprove any of it.
I have a picture of Richard and his sister that he sent to Polly (my mother in law) which
I have posted in my on line tree. I was so hopeful someone might see it and be doing some
research.
Still I continue....and with the help and encouragement of folks like you, the pursuit is
interesting and fun and challenging and very worth the effort!

I'm hoping that you know that Harry is a nickname for Harold and that
you have searched for that name. Sometimes the nickname was the legal
name, but often it was Harold.
