Bartholomew Co., Indiana; German Township
CHAMBERS, JOHN A., P.O. Edinburg, farmer, Sec 3; son of Joseph and Sally
Chambers; was born in Flat Rock Township, April 1, 1820. Married, Dec. 32,
1838, Rachel, daughter of John H. and Sally (Carter) Smith; born in
Lawrenceburg, Ind., Nov. 21, 1820. Children -- Sally Ann, Mary Ellen,
Charles Lewis, Joseph Henry, Benjamin Wesley, John P., Minerva J., William
Rush. The father of Mr. Chambers was a native of New Jersey; lived for a
time in New York State, where he married Sally, daughter of Daniel Gibbs (an
enterprising Yankee, of a class that have done much toward building up this
great country); he afterward came to Indiana, where he died about
twenty-five years ago, his wife surviving him some twenty years. The father
and mother of Mrs. Rachel Chambers died a great many years ago; the former
had been a soldier in the war of 1812. Mr. John A. Chambers has a farm of
160 acres, with first-class improvements, and has the confidence and respect
of those who know him. Mr. and Mrs. Chambers are members of New Light
Church.
