Jody
I am a descendant of a James Chambers (b. cir 1772) and Jane Wherry
(Wharry?) (b. 1781), who moved from Washington Co., PA to Licking Co., OH.
about 1815. I think it is an odd coincidence that your descendant David
Chambers married Martha Wharry.
An LDS FGS indicates that this James Chambers was born in County Down,
Ireland, but there is a record of another James Chambers in Washington, PA
who was from County Down, Ireland, so there may have been a mix-up by the
LDS researcher.
Early census data locates a James Chambers and family in Nottingham TWP and
a James Wherry and family in adjoining Somerset TWP in Washington Co., PA.
These two may have been Jame's and Jane's fathers. Both bought property in
the 1787-88 time period indicating they may have arrived in the county about
the same year. My ancestors James Chambers and Jane Wherry were probably
married about 1798-1799 as their first, John, was born in 1800.
There may be no connection between our two families but I would appreciate
your consideration of the possibility. I would also appreciate hearing from
any others who can help identify the parents of James Chambers and Jane
Wherry from Washington Co., PA.
Dean Cullison.
