Happy New Year Everyone,
I am (still) trying to find the family of both of the folks below that were
married in Rowan Co NC in 1785, although they probably lived in that part of
Rowan that became Iredell in 1788. I am also interested in the
Priscilla/Druscilla Robinson/Robertson mentioned later.
This is the couple I am interested in. CASSANDRA ROBINSON/ROBISON who
married WILLIAM CHAMBERS in Rowan Co. NC. 6, Nov. 1785. A MAXWELL CHAMBERS
was involved in the marriage as either a bondsman or surety (sorry can't find
my notes at the moment). And I know there are several Maxwell Chambers, but
haven't been able to pinpoint the one who would have been old enough to have
been involved in the marriage.
A child of this couple, Elizabeth Chambers, married Jacob FORTNER in 1818,
Greene Co TN, where his father Shugar/Sugar FORTNER/FORKNER/FAULKNER had
migrated after 1820. Sugar Fortner married PRISCILLA ROBINSON/ROBERTSON
December 06, 1785 in Warren Co NC. They are in the Wilkes Co NC 1810 and
1820 census records. (For information on the Faulkner/Fortners see:

Any thoughts on Priscilla ROBINSON also very welcome. At one site she is
said to be the daughter of a Nicholas and Abitha/Tabitha (who I think have
been traced by Tom Robertson back to the Prince George Co Robertsons ---
Helen???), and I am wondering if anyone has any PROOF of that relationship.
Another site says she was the daughter of Nicholas Robinson and Rebecca
BRITTAIN, who were married November 21, 1786 in Warren Co NC, but that is
IMPOSSIBLE, being as how Priscilla married Shugar Fortner the prior year!!
I also note when looking at the book "NC Marriages to 1800" (I think that is
the title), "Robison" vs. Robinson seems to be the more common way the name
was recorded in Rowan Co for early marriages (vs. other counties).
Thanks in Advance for any thoughts on the CHAMBERS and ROBINSON/ROBISONS here.
Best Regards,
Janet (Baugh) Hunter
