I reponded directly a couple days ago as I still have holiday guests
but I will continue since there is this new post. My ancestor, John
Chambers, was inBurlington in 1804 but this John is NOT mine.
However, Ii have been chasing this family for many years and have
collected much info about many Chambers including Ahijah who was from
Newtown, Suxxexc Co NJ, but I don't hink he is the right one because
his first gen. desc. were in the Hamilton area dn later over by St.
Thomas. I have never found any in the area of Brant Co.
However, there is another Chambers family that I think is possibly the
right one. This family of John Chambers was also from NJ but I don't
know where. They traveled to Canada before 1800 as Loyalists and they
passsed through Tioga Co NY enroute. They first got land near L Erie
and/or Niagara. John's son Patrick seems to have been the spokesman
for his father, John.
I find them next in Ancaster Tqp not far from the home of Richard
Beasley. where Jjohn purchased a lot. During the War of 1812. John
was employed by the gov't to repair/rebuild the soldiers' barracks in
Burlington. Tools were stolen and in the documents related to this
and his petition for more land, he stated he was from Ancaster.
He got another parcel of land after the war in West Flamboro Tqp ( or
possibley East Flamboro....I think John died there.
In searching for the right John to fit my ancestor, I researched many
Chambers families including this one but it has been a few years and I
have not saved the docs because I determined this one was not mine.
However, in census or ? I found a John Chambers who was a barber in
the Hamilton area and showed up again as a barber in Dumfiries. I
certainly hope my memory is functioning this morning. But since you
have a ancecester named Patrick, I would certainly pursue this
John/Patrick. At ne time, I had the docs for this family but
eventually determined that he was not mine. I am guessing that he
barber is the son of Patrick, son of John.
I would like to have the original poster of this contact me directly
at carolchurch99(a)gmail.com.

Hi!
Does this Upper Canada Land petition concern the John Chambers you are
looking for? [The age may refer to the fact that he is at least 21 years
old... and not his exact age...]
http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/microform-digitization/006003-119.01-e...
[about 4 pages in all - number 148]
If so, he was the son of Abijah Chambers of Saltfleet and had brothers
Abijah of Clinton; Amos of Saltfleet; Robert of Saltfleet; Daniel of
Puslinch; and Henry of Saltfleet.
[re book: William D. Reid's "The Loyalists in Ontario - The Sons and
Daughters of The American Loyalists of Upper Canada", page 58]
One of Abijah's petitions... mentions wife Mary Hensinger [number 213]
http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/microform-digitization/006003-119.01-e...
According to trees on the net, this Abijah had connections to Sussex
County, New Jersey. [Caution: The trees I looked at had obvious errors and
need work.]
Hope this helps,
Stephen
[P.S. Not my Chambers family]
