Hi Dona,
Thank you for your reply. I am a native of Dallas County, AL, Selma.
My Greatgrandmother was Sarah Jane {Sally} Chambers. She married Capt.
Calvin L. Harrell in 1866. Her parents were Joseph Heny Chambers and
Eliza Jane McDonald. I'd heard from family stories, these Chamber came
to Al. from Georgia. I don't know the county. Also, they owned land in
Marengo, Perry and Dallas Counties, AL
I have Joseph Henry's father was Robert Boyd Chambers, married to Jane
Gtiggs in GA in 1808. Where were these Chambers before Ga? I've heard
PA. that they were there from Ireland by 1726.
My information is from notes left by my paternal grandmother and aunt.
I'm not sure if they're correct.
I have been researching my Harrell line, and I am very interested to
know more about the Chambers.
I would appreciate any help that you can offer.
Marsha

I am possibly interested in your pre 1900 UK Chambers information depending on which part of the UK they came from. I have Chambers relatives in London and going back to Norfolk.
Is this the area you have information on?
Regards
Alan

I would love to contact this side of the family - I can take them back quite a few years on the UK side
I believe that Joseph Boyd Chambers and Robert Boyd Chambers are brothers to
my ancestor, David Chambers b. 1781 Rowan Co, NC, m. 1805 Hancock Co, GA, d.

Hi,
I know that there were a lot of papers and photos relating to the family and estate which were misplaced after the fire. When the house was sold, the new owner came across a large amount of these papers when renovating or demolishing part of the house. He did tell a local newspaper about the find, but didn't let the family know. My mother-on-law asked him to return the papers to her, but he refused to do so. She had sent him a letter via her lawyers, when perhaps a personal plea may have had more success, I think. We often think about this and hope that his attitude may soften in years to come, as our children (and my brother-in-law's children) will, I'm sure, be very interested in that part of their history, and we only have sketchy details. Even copies would be really welcome. If we ever have access to them I will contact you again. You might try scotlandspeople.gov.uk for records, or maybe a local Aberdeenshire public library. Good luck.
Does any one have information regarding
a Joseph Boyd Chambers, officer in the Georgia Militia, War of 1812?
Or Robert Boyd Chambers?
Thank you.
Marsha

Thanks very much for the background information. I am not related to the family, but one of my Scottish great great grandfathers (David Ruxton) was a tenant on the estate. Several of his children were born either at Tillery or at the nearby farm of Edgehill, where David lived for many years, and where he died in 1863. I believe also that David's daughter Margaret and her husband James Findlay of New Machar (my great grandparents) may have also lived on the estate, or nearby, for some years until 1836, the year they left for Canada. Three sons were born at the farm of Tillyfour between 1832 and 1835, and the second of these sons was named, presumably in honour of the then lord of the manor, John Chambers Hunter Findlay.
Would you know if by chance estate records, for example records of leases, exist anywhere (e.g. Aberdeen archives)?
Do you know who Isaac Chambers married , where & when? Do you know when he
died?
