My line of Chambers was in Cole Co., MO starting around early 1830's. They came from around Campbell Co., TN. The earliest is Wm. C. Chambers, Sr., then my line of Julius Amos Chambers, Sr. Julius' family went to Texas Co., MO sometime in the 1850's settling in & around Houston.
I have a James L. Chambers in my files. I have him born 1854 in MO. The parents I have for him are James A. Chambers & Mary Wells. Don't have any family listed for James L. Not sure if this would be your James L. Chambers or not.

I am seeking the descendants of David Crocket and Margaret Wilson Chambers from Gilmer or Cherokee Co Ga to Lamar Co TX to share family info. I am the GG niece of this family. My great grandmother Kane Amanda was the sister of Margaret. They migrated to Gilmer Co Ga from Yancey Co NC in the 1870's. Thanks.

The family was living in Lumpkin County, Georgia in 1870 and 1880.
One of his sons Thomas Gilbert born in 1871 was my Grandfather and Samuel Jasper was my great Uncle. He and my grandfather married sisters. There were two William Henry's. My William Henry's father was Lemuel Chambers the son of Barak Chambers and the grandson of Phillip Chambers.
As I recall the other William Henry was the son of Lamech Chambers.
Hope this helps you.

Found an old (late 1800's) photo album someone has in their store, might have someone's Chambers family photos in it.
http://stores.ebay.com/Tharpes-Rare-Books-and-CDs
Just use the index on the left and go to "1800's family photo albums". They have alot of old family history books in it too.
Hope that helps someone,
Jamie

What a tangled web. Twins - love it - my husband and I have had such a great laugh today - we kept creating our own stories about the census taker not being able to spell or etc I think you get the drift. . . .
Ok - here is what I know for a fact - or at least I think it is fact -----beginning to wonder
My grandmother was Minnie Chambers was always told her middle name was Belle - has Minnie B on her headstone - but on the marriage license which is the only document that I have her name is listed Minnie A. We saw things for Minnie A. when in Mena but copied none of it - not the brightest bulb on the tree we were - came home and looked at her marriage certificate to discover it says Minnie A.
Her dad was John Edmund Chambers - on a census I read it said that his dad was Elijah Chambers from Tenn. and that his mother was from Tenn. and that he was born in Tenn.
Beyond my parents -----that is all the family history that I know. I have tried to put pieces together on the Internet the last few days and am getting more and more confused. The only reason that I asked you about Elisha is because I saw a family tree posted on the Internet listing him as my grandmother's grandfather - so now - hmmmm would have to think that John Edmund knew what he was doing when he said Elijah for the census and some other poor soul has gone down the wrong path with their research. What documentation do you have - do you mind sharing?
So I am back to square one - What info do you have to help tie this together - I will also find the family tree that I am referencing because according to your info it is incorrect.
My email address is Sholthouston(a)aol.com I certainly do not mind you writing me directly and not through the forum if that is fine with you. I am in Houston, Texas - where are you located.

Also - in doing your research - did you come across 2 different spellings for Elisha? Elisha and Elijha
Sometimes I wonder if it was not the census taker that took liberties with spellings

Guess that your husband and I are cousins of some sort. I am researching the same branch of the family. Was in Mena last week at the cemetary and took pictures and rubbings off the headstones. So many are missing since I was a child. I have a list of the Chambers that are buried there and most of the headstones are missing and the few that are left are becoming hard to read. Send me your email and I will send you the pictures that we took. My grandmother was Minnie and her dad was John Edmund Chambers. His dad was Elisha - so I guess that Charley and John were brothers. Any information that you can share would be greatly appreciated. Also do you have any family pictures? Long story but none of ours exist any longer. Charley's headstone was still legible. My gg and ggg grandparents are buried there but their stones are gone. Will look into some sort of markers in the future. Have to do more work though before I can even think of that one because of the new priva!
cy act the funeral home can not tell me where they are buried. They did give me a name though of someone to contact that might have a schematic of who is buried where at Concord Baptist Cemetary. Look forward to hearing back from you.

I have quite a bit of info on my husband's CHAMBERS line in Mena. His gr gr grandfather was Elisha CHAMBERS (m. to Mary Ann Jane JOHNSON). His gr grandfather was Charley CHAMBERS (1859-1901) who was married to Mary MORGAN. Elisha and Charley are both buried at Ink, close to Mena. Ring any bells?

I have hit a big brick wall. I am looking for any information on Schuyler (Schyler, Schuler) Chambers from Franklin County, Virginia. He was born August 4, 1825 and died June 6, 1862 in battle. I have found the marker in the cemetary in Franklin County so I am sure this information is correct. He was married to Mary Ann Simpson. They had 7 children, Elizabeth born 1848, Joseph born 1851, Minervah born 1853, John Thomas born 1854 (my great grandfather), Schuyler Henry born 1858, Margaret born 1860, and Phillip born 1862. Mary Ann remarried a man by the name of James Durham or Durhan and had 3 more children, Lucie born 1868, Tillie born 1871, and Charles born 1875..
I have much information on the family AFTER Schuyler, but I can find nothing on his parents. I know that someone out there is bound to have some info on this group. There were too many children involved for me to be the only one researching this group.
I will be anxiously awaiting any information and thanks for any and all help.
