Looking for obit or bio on their lives. Joshua would be a brother to my g-g-grandfather, Matthew Chambers.
I found the website that shows a pic of their headstone.

Hi Carolyn,
I sprinkled tobacco on these ancestors in Chambersburg. They lie in a family plot at a Presbyterian church there. I honor all of them, white and Indian. Speaking native languages was necessary for doing business back then.

Hi,
I trace to the Cmbers of Chambersburg, Pa. Olb Ben, the founder of Falling Springs, now Chambersburg, is my white 5x great grandfather. The Chambers came from County Antrim in Ireland around the 1730's. Lot's of Catholic - Protestant discontent then (nothing new for that place).
Catholics killed about thirty thousand Protestants, so the smart ones came to America.
I am a Shawnee Indian, but got some Chambers genes running around in me somewhere. I am one of your cousins. I have a bit of info. on these people. Contact me at : lonewlf99(a)aol.com

Hi,
I trace to the Chambers family of Chambersburg, Pa. Old Ben Chambers who founded the town is my white 5x great grandfather. He hated Indians since they were supposed to have killed one of his sons. Well, I am Shawnee Native American. Two of the Chambers fought with George Washington in the Revolution. One is my white 4x great grandfather. Contact me at: lonewlf99(a)aol.com

"Old Ben" had a pretty good reputation for being a straight shooter from what I've always heard. Furthermore, at least he had enough respect for the Native Americans he did business with to learn to speak to them in their own language, and was known to be fair with them. He was also a very generous man. Perhaps you should show him as much respect as you do your Native American ancestors. I do, and he was one of my ancestors as well as yours - along with some of the finest names in Cherokee history. Somewhere along the line, someone thought his genes were good enough to mix with the rest of yours. You could maybe do worse?

Try Cherokee.org which is the official site of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma (the Western Cherokees; as opposed to the Eastern Band in North Carolina at Qualla Boundary). "Cindi's List" has a very good bunch of links, and the National Archives is excellent once you can get around on it. Try keying in NARA and Cherokee Indians

Jackie: Good job! I had a similar experience last year. In 2002, my husband and I visited for the first time, the childhood home in Missouri of my mother (who died in 1993 at the age of 82). The caretaker of the former homesite (now an RV Park) was kind enough to personally show us around the property, and when we left, he gave us some old photos he had found in an attic of one of the houses on the property. They were 50 years old. I promised him that if they were not of my family, I would try to find whose family they did belong to, or donate them to the historical/genealogical society in McDonald County, Missouri where they were found. Unbelievably, I found the grown daughter of someone mentioned in a birth announcement which was in with the photos, and she contacted me through the message board. The photos were eventually rejoined with their rightful family, but the best part for me was the journey of discovery. As we compared notes and collaborated with others to deter!
mine who, what, where, and how, each little success was a discovery. It doesn't get any better except for one thing. (This is to all who may have photos they are trying to reconnect with their family..). Act as soon as you are able to find the people, as it took me a couple of years which could have been eliminated except for my faulty thinking. I kept thinking I needed to scan in the photos for the people to see, and I was unable to do that for a long time. Had I acted when I first received them, by just posting a message on the board, without the photos, it is possible the subjects in the photos might have still been living. As it was, by a twist of fate, they had both died just prior to my finding the family. The spouse (aged, and not physically well by then), was the young sailor in the photos. Had I acted sooner, they could all have enjoyed the photos together after their being missing for nearly 50 years! Nevertheless, somewhere there is a family of grandchildren wh!
o can see how beautiful their grandmother was at her wedding, bridal s
hower, with her new babies, and the babies with their great grammy and grandpa. The handsome young sailor shown in his military adventures was the sole survivor of that generation shown in the photos. One of the descendants remembered her great grandfather having a photo taken with each of them in the same chair shown in the photo. Awesome! Just a reminder to all, so that you might have an even happer ending if you find someone's family photos, and are trying to reconnect them... Also, don't forget "Dead Fred" the website for connecting unidentified photos with long lost family or other descendants who can identify or want them. It's a win/win situation..
