Robert W. Chambers of Elkhart County Indiana was killed February 24, 1943, in the South Pacific during World War II. He is buried in the Manila American Cemetery in the Philippines. We are seeking information regarding his military and civilian life.
I am a retired Hoosier from Madison County residing in the Philippines with my Filipino wife. We are seeking family and military information about servicemen from your county killed in the South Pacific during World War II. There are 17,206 Americans buried here and thousands more that are missing or buried at sea and are honored on the “Tablets of the Missing”. Please visit our website to see the beautiful memorial located in Manila, Philippines.

My wife and I visited the cemetery as visitors and left with a mission in our heart. We have been taking photographs of the graves of the Indiana servicemen buried here and have been uniting them (at no charge) with their family members in Indiana and across the United States. To receive the photo of your family member, neighbor or friend all you need is a working email address. We do not send them to regular mailing addresses due to the costs. Please help us find the families of the men that might still be living. Our project is only successful because of teamwork and your contributions are noted on our website. If you wish to help us we will be pleased to add your name to our ACKNOWLEDGMENT page on the website. The obituaries usually did not appear till to three months after the death date.
If you are not a genealogist you can help by just picking up the telephone directory and find someone with the same last name and give them a call. It has worked many times for us.

Dave and Apple Dwiggins

She is a possibility - but unless there is a connection to Burlington County it would be a long shot. This family after leaving Philadelphia all settled in Burlington County around Moorestown later some went to Camden County. Let me know if you find any more data on location for your CHAMBERS family. Thanks for replying to my post. JSR

Ruby Absher's book lumps many Chambers records together saying William Chambers... he... (singular) and I'm trying to sort them out.
1790 census shows nine Chambers families in Second Company, Fifth Company and 15th Company. Mrs. Absher's records show deeds for two of those groups. I don't have enough information yet to know whose lines will come out of Wilkes. All hints, clues, guesses appreciated.

I came across an A B Chambers in the 1850 Federal Census for Missouri living in St Louis City. He was born about 1809 (age 41) and it looks like he was born in Virginia. He is the proprietor of The Republican Newspaper, presumably the St Louis Republican, and has $35,000 in property. [Mr Chambers, editor of the Republican, is mentioned on pp 48-49, John C. Bennett's History of the Saints (Boston: Leland & Whiting, 1842) http://olivercowdery.com/texts/ben1842a.htm
His wife was Eliza, born about 1815 (35) in Kentucky. The household is large. The first two "children" are Lucian Carr and Alfred Carr, ages 20 and 18, resp, both born in MO. Then come Ben. G Chambers (13), Mary Chambers (10) and Eliza Chambers (8). There is an elderly lady named Mary Graves born about 1784, plus two Schroeder girls and a John Anderson. This same family seems to be listed in 1840 Federal Census for Missouri, in St Louis, under head of household Abram B Chambers. Here are my suggestions for the 1840 household:
1 M less than 5 [Ben Chambers]
1 M 5-10 [Alfred Carr]
6 M 10-15 [Lucian Carr, John Anderson?, Unknown, Unknown, Unknown, Unknown]
5 M 15-20 [Five unknowns]
1 M 30-40 [Abram B Chambers]
1 F less than 5 [Mary Schroeder]
2 F 20-30 [Eliza Chambers, Unknown]
1 F 50-60 [Mary Graves]
Does anyone have further information about this newspaper man named Chambers and whether there is any familial link between him or his wife and the two Carr boys? This line of Carrs holds the ancestors of Caleb Carr, the popular author of "The Alienist".
Thanks.
