Looking for any info on the descendants or ancestors of Charles Morris Chambers(May 6, 1850 in Atchison Co., Missouri-Dec 31, 1919 in Fremont Co., IA). Charles Morris married Sarah Elizabeth Garrean & also Alberta Harless. Charles Morris is the son of Samuel Chambers(Oct 28, 1809 in Franklin Co., OH-Jan 30, 1876 in Fremont Co., Iowa) & Charlotte Moore(Aug 24, 1805-Sep 7, 1878). Charles Morris had a brother named Lansford Chambers. Samuel Chambers was the son of Joseph Chambers(1779 in Pennsylvania-1848 in Madison, OH) & Susannah Van Gundy(1780-1823). That is all the info that I have. If anyone could help me, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Thanks. I think there is a chance there might be some connection, but I am somewhat doubtful. If the elder Daniel Chambers (born ca 1810 in Ireland) is indeed the father of the Daniel Chambers I have in my line (born ca 1846 in PA), the years would be off by too much. I just haven't been able to definitively make the connection between these two above because their ages in the census cary too much. (There is a Daniel Chambers listed in 1850 in Bradford Co with a son Daniel, but the age of the son is about 5 years off of later census records, casting doubt on the connection).

I am researching Loftus M. Chambers, born abt. 1835 in Vermont. He married Lovina Mathewson in 1864 in Brownstown, Wayne county, Michigan and was still living there in 1880. In 1870 census their children were living in Brownstown in the home of William and Caroline Chambers, but Loftus and Lovina were not listed. Does anyone have any information about any of these people? I wonder if William and Loftus were brothers.

Hi,
We may or may not be searching the same family. My 2nd great grandfather was Phillip Chambers. He is in the census for Huston Twp. Clearfield County PA in 1850, 1860, 1870 and 1880. He must have been born about 1821 but the census data is messed up and the ages don't match. He may have been a nephew to your line since I have a book titled "The History of Huston Twp., Clearfield County PA." It was written by a local newspaper reporter named Allen Rosenkrans and published in 1899. It states that Phillip's father was Daniel. It says he was married to Margaret Hevener, "aunt of Valentine". I found Valentine Hevener in the Clearfield County census. His family moved west later on. My source says that Daniel Chambers came from Lock Haven to Bennett's Branch in Clearfield County. There is a Daniel Chambers in the 1850 census for Huston Twp. He is alone. Then in 1860 he appears again. He is now married it looks like he married a widow with children. My source says that Daniel went to !
Canada, leaving his family and that his daughter Mary, aged 21 went looking for him and died in Canada while searching. I wondered if Margaret divorced him or if she died because I can't find a Margaret Hevener or Chambers in any of the census around that area.
The interesting thing about your posting is that Phillip married Emeline Bliss, whose family came to Clearfield by way of Elmira NY in about 1819. Emeline's grandfather was a minister and his whole congregation moved with him when he took his family to Clearfield County. Phillip's grandfather could have been the first Daniel you mentioned. There is a Daniel with a family in 1830 or 1840 census in Clinton County, PA, I believe, but I haven't definitely proved a link to mine yet. I got Emeline's death certificate and it says she is buried in Penfield, Huston Twp. but I went there and could not find a grave for her or Phillip.
If you have any more information I'd love to have it. I can tell you all about Emeline and Phillip's descendents.
Thanks

I searching for information on the Chambers family of Bradford County, Pennsylvania (near Elmira, New York). The farthest back I can go is to Daniel CHAMBERS (born in PA ca 1846- died aft 1880). Daniel’s wife was Mary HARKER (b ca 1851 in Amador County, California - died after 1880). I am confident, but not certain that Daniel’s father was also Daniel Chambers, born in Ireland and a resident of Bradford County.
As best I can tell, Daniel and Mary had at least the following children:
*John Anthony CHAMBERS (1874-?)
*Charles Daniel CHAMBERS (born 8 May 1877 in Oregon - died 20 Apr 1953 in Elmira, NY) - married to Mary CAVERLY
*James CHAMBERS (b ca 1879 in Oregon - died ?)
*Sue Marie CHAMBERS (b ca 1884 in Oregon - died ?) Married Ralph NEFF
*Clara CHAMBERS (?-?) - Married to a TEXADA
My wife is a descendent of Charles and I can provide accurate information on that branch to anyone interested. I would be thrilled to have help with some of the extended family and on the older generations.
Many thanks,
Matt Merkt

I just wanted to let everyone know that I have been flooded with emails about the Willie and Hester Chambers picture that I found, and I'm so happy to say that I recieved an email from the daughter of one of the subjects in the photo, who happened to have the exact same picture of her dad and Aunt Hester. So, I mailed the original photos to her. I appreciate all the help in trying to locate a family for Willie and Hester! Thanks all!

BITTEN BY A SAVAGE DOG.
Will CHAMBERS, 40 years old, sat down exhausted at
Twelfth and Liberty streets yesterday afternoon, after
having searched unsuccessfully for work in Argentine.
A ferocious dog jumped on him, as he pondered on
his ill luck, and lacerated his face badly. CHAMBERS
tried to protect his face with his hands and the dog tore
the skin from them also. Some workmen, who had seen
the dog attack CHAMBERS, drove him off.
The workmen carried CHAMBERS, who lay unconscious
on the walk to a neighboring house and Police Surgeon
LONGAN was called. He sewed up CHAMBERS' wounds
and he was sent to his home at First street and Agnes
avenue.
