Hello,
I have attempted to email you but the address returns as invalid. I am also descended from the Robert/Hannah line and am beginning my research in that area. I hope to verify these connections and learn more about the stories involved over the course of this summer. Do you still have a scan of the book that your aunt wrote? I would be very interested.
Thank you for your time!

Note: I have a copy of this page of the marriage register for only one set of the names on it. However, I hated to see the rest of the information “go to waste,” so I’m posting it out here in the event that it may prove useful to someone else.

Debbie:
I haven't run across this particular John Thomas Chambers. I understand I have a living relative of that name who resides in Tennessee who claims descent from a Wm Chambers and Elizabeth Patton of VA; however, he has bum dope in this regard. So, it may be possible that the John Thomas Chambers you seek may also be an ancestor of the afore-mentioned Tennessee John Thomas Chambers; and if so, would also be an ancestor of mine. In my searches for my Chambers line, I have only sketchy corroborating documentation back to my 3greatgrandfather, Moses Chambers, circa early 1800's. There were, and are, a multitude of Chambers's in VA, NC, and TN.

The Chambers family of Woodgrove Plantation in Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana owned slaves prior to the War Between the States. I know that Aunt Polly and her husband took the name Chambers after they were freed and stayed with our family until their deaths. Their children carry the Chambers name. In addition, I have found other African-American Chambers in that area who are not related to Aunt Polly, so I would assume that other former slaves also took the name. My g.g.-grandfather was considered a rather benevolent owner and actually freed his slaves prior to the war.
