Fred,
The information you sent regarding the origin of the Chambers name is very
interesting.
Would this also apply to the name Chalmers? My ancestors used Chalmers, then
Chalmbers, and then Chambers in their documents. My understanding is that
the name is generally considered Scottish. In your research, does that
appear to be true?
Catherine

Hi
It is generally accepted that the name Chambers came from the Occupation or
Position of the person in charge of keeping the Castle, Manor or House of a
noble Norman family whilst the Lord was away elsewhere. There are records of
many Norman families with numerous manors, thus someone had to take care of
business in the absence of the boss. In fact one or two families had so many
manors it is impossible to believe that they could have visited them all.
Thus we have the hereditary keepers of Wolsty Castle in Cumberland all
Chambers as are the keepers of Hollym Castle in Yorkshire. Both castles were
owned by the Bruce family, as in Robert the Bruce, (not a Scot but a Norman)
and both Chambers families were related.
The post of Chamberlain came from the same root.
Regards

Charlotte B Chambers married Roger H Haslam in Chicago, Cook County Illinois on 11/14/1891. The Chambers family lived on the West side of Chicago in the Austin area.
I believe that they lived by Loral and Chicago Ave. Roger and Charlotte also lived in Austin. They had three sons Harry, Roy, and Roger (Bud), and one daughter Edna. Roger and Charlotte both died around 1957. Their wakes were held at the Sullivan Funeral home on Chicago Ave.
I need information about the Chambers. The Haslams were my Great Grandparents.
