My ggf James C. Chambers (55th INF CO B Greene Co. Ga) was a POW at Camp
Douglas. He had a brother, William J. (Joseph) Chambers, that moved from Ga.
To Texas. Joe married Mary Stiles. While searching some Camp Douglas
records, I came across a William J. Chambers of the 15th Calvery Co. B Texas
that died in 1865 while a POW at Camp Douglas. Can anyone help me with
William J. or James C. Chambers.
Thanks Randy
Hi,
I was asked about the Frank Grainger article, "The Chambers Family of Raby
Cote" which was published by the Cumberland and Westmorland Antiquarian and
Archaeological Society in 1900.
I have just finished scanning down and transcribing it, and it is available
on my web site http://www.mantey.co.uk as is a Gedcom of Chambers families
in Cumberland England. I have also recently returned from a trip to
Cumberland and will be publishing on that site some photographs of relevant
Chambers sites, mainly the churches where they are recorded.

Would anyone have info on John CHAMBERS m. Rebecca BLACK.
He was in Ohio in 1849, born probably in Ohio before 1825-29. He
lived in Missouri in the 1850's.
Many thanks
Joyce

It is possible that Benjamin Chambers is connected to a James Chambers who
lived in Haywood County, North Carolina. I am descended from him through
his daughter, Alanthey Chambers, who married William Dover in Hall County,
Georgia in 1842. The only reason I believe this is that they named their
first child, Benjamin Wiley. Neither of these names occur in the Dover
family, but it could be that Benjamin is somehow connected. If you have
anything else on Benjamin, I'll try to take a look at my Chambers' material
to see if anything connects. Thanks.

Hello again,
I am still searching for that link. Looking back through Tyrrell Co NC 1850
Census I find listed as head of house
Melanny Chambers age 35
Wiley Chambers age 9
Britain age 5
Sarah age 3
Also in Tyrrell Co Marriages
Benjamin Chambers married Melena Sawyer on 1-27-1834 in Tyrrell Co., NC
Can you make anything out of this?

Hello
Sorry I neglected to enter the state
Benjamin Chambers (b about 1825) was listed in the 1850 census in Washington
Co., NC with wife Joyce Furlough Chambers (b 1832) and 1 child Mary. Looking
for other children and his father. They may have also lived in Tyrrell Co.,

Hi,
A lot of naming patterns are regional in that they are only common in a
small locality. Using a surname as a christian name was common in Cumberland
England until about 1850, but there the surname, usually of the mother, was
given as the only christian name. Thus we get sons being called Jackson
Chambers, Osmotherley Barwise or even Harrison Ford.

Hi Randy...
This was sent to one of my cousins regarding the naming order of
children in the British Isles. It "might" help explain some of your
questions. Then, again, it might not.

I keep running across Chambers that have apparent names of other families but
I really have no idea how important they are. Can anyone give me a clue?
For example if a son of John Chambers who married a Sarah Green, could we
expect the son to name a child John Green Chambers? Another question. How
about a family that names their children Robert William, William Henry, Henry
Robert, Henry William, etc. Is this madness or what??? Any answers?
Thanks, Randy
Hello,
I'm new to the list. I would like to contact someone who is
researching the Furloughs' and the Chambers families. Joycie Furlough born
about 1832, wife of Benjamin Chambers born about 1825. They are listed in
1850 Wash. Co Census with 1 child, Mary. Were their other children? Who
were their parents? Death dates?
Thanks
Alice
I am looking for info on the following person
ARLITTA CHAMBERS born 12-31-1815 in Monroe county IN she married JAMES
ALLISON TRUAX 4-1-1841 in Owen county IN. She died 11-18-1894 and is buried
in Little Mount Cemetery in Owen county IN.
I would like to find any info relating to her parents. I have seen records
stating her place of birth is Monroe county IN and also on the 1850 census
records of Owen county IN it gives her birth place as KY.

Barry, Could you e-mail me re your Alabama Chambers? My gggrandmother was
Mary Ann Chambers. I do not know her parents names but she was born 1833,
died 1895. The only thing I know about her family is that she had a sister,
Elizabeth (eliza) Chambers (1818-1850). Both married James Dale Hartness,
both born in AL, both died in Oktibbeha Co., Mississippi. Thanks, Robin
