I wish this message to be an apology to the query of Steve Yerby
I disagree that the use of the CHAMBERS-L should be to confuse...
> I thought I would throw this in to confuse the issue! He He He

Perhaps I can save researchers for this family a little time here.
Let's present a few points in an effort to clarify rather than confuse:
The book by Frances Chambers Paynter is full of oral tradition, a fine
"to-do" list for further research, but it has some confusing weaknesses...
> According to "Frances Chambers Paynter" book "The Chambers Family,
>Descendents of Edmund Chambers" She writes the following:
>
>William Chambers Jr. Son of William and Rachel Chambers,
Rachel was only nine years old at this time
>Son of Edmund
>Chambers. b. 1790 in Campbell County, NC
there is no Campbell Co NC, never has been. Frances may mean Campbell Co
TN, but that jurisdiction did not form until 1806
Edmund as father of a William Sr. is oral tradition... Frances' book
says "We think the children of Edmund were..."
She thinks about the descendants of Edmund and she thinks about the
ancestors, but there is not documentation for either. A family Bible for
Elisha Chambers who died 1859 in Breathitt Co KY shows he was a son of
Edmund. To my knowledge NO OTHER descendants of Edmund have been proved
this well.

>1850 Texas County, MO.
this citation may belong to some other data, rather than the above set
please refer to Steve Yerby's query for Texas County information
>Moved from Campbell County to Cole County, MO in 1824
>then to Centertown, MO Number of children 12.
this overlooks the marriage in what was to become Marion Co TN, see below
Pension records indicate a large number of Campbell Co people lived here
for a time before continuing on to Missouri.

>Married to Elizabeth Metcalf b. 1794 in NC m. 1812 in Lookout Mountain,
>Marion County, TN d. 6/10/1876 in Cole County, MO buried in Centertown, Cole

Marion Co TN formed 1816, as Steve Yerby's query shows, it was at the
time of this marriage still Indian Territory.

Ron Riley's ggg grandmother was named in a probate settlement in MO found
by Josephine G. Morrow
Macon Co MO records naming CHAMBERS heirs of Rachel Morrow:
Jackson Chambers of Adair County, Missouri, James Phillips and Ruth his
wife of Macon County Missouri, Moses Chambers of Moniteau Co Missouri,
Philip Hootes and Susan his wife of the State of Tennessee, Jeremiah
Chambers of the State of Georgia
We notice the court documents of Macon Co MO 1848 do not show Ron's gg
grandfather Jackson Chambers to have a brother named William Chambers in
1848, even though the William Chambers mentioned in the query of Steve
Yerby did not leave a probate in Cole Co MO until 1864.
To Steve and others researching CHAMBERS of Cole Co MO and Campbell Co
TN, I suggest glancing through the oral traditions presented by Frances
Chambers Paynter, then off to the library with you to do some original
research based on those thoughts. Some are good, some are not so strong.
Adding her data base to your genealogy files, will as Ron suggests, be
confusing!
Let's use the List for better purposes. Let's try to get some reliable
documentation into the archive files of this CHAMBERS-L.

Hello Everyone,
I am hoping that someone can help me solve the mystery of William C.
Chambers, Sr. To date, he seems to be my "brick wall". I have had some
questions posed to me as to how, or if he ties into Edmund Chambers.
Honestly, I don't know if he does or not. I will post the information that
I do have about him, in hopes that someone out there might recognise who he
is.
William C. Chambers, Sr. ( I have no middle name for him ), was born
1790, in Wilkes Co., NC, and died April 24, 1864, in Cole Co., Mo. He
married Elizabeth Metcalf, at Lookout Mountain, Marion Co., Tenn. (Indian
Territory) b.1794, and died June 10, 1876, in Cole Co., Mo.
The following information comes from the book set, Texas County Missouri
Heritage, Vol. 1, published by Texas County Missouri Genealogical &
Historical Society, 1989. This is a 3 volume set.
Page 288,
The first members of the Chambers family appear to have arrived in
Missouri about the time the territory was admitted as a state into the
Union. Sources vary as to the exact year of their arrival, with the dates
given ranging from 1816 to 1822. They arrived in present-day Cole County,
Mo., settling on the rich bottom lands near the junction of Moniteau Creek
with the Missouri River, just west of our modern capitol, Jefferson City.
David and Joshua Chambers came with the "Tennessee Settlement", a large
party of inter-related people from Campbell County, Tenn., and including
family names of Chambers, Gouge,(also spelled Gooch), McKinney, Harmon,
Inglish (English), Miller, and Fulkerson.
Three Chambers men and their families, David, William, and Joshua,
settled in that area, although William apparently arrived in Missouri either
in 1831, or 1832. They were all born between 1789 and 1793, but we are not
certain of their exact relationship. They may have been brothers, but no
proof exists of that. There is a distinct possibility that David and Joshua
were sons of one James Chambers who remained in Campbell County, and that
William was the son of a William who also remained there. There is enough
family usage of the same names to insure a close relationship between the
three, however. Descendants of David and William had settled in Texas Co.,
Mo., prior to the Civil War, mostly in the present-day Yukon, Raymondville,
Tyrone, and Big Creek communities.
Page 289
William Chambers is thought to have been born between 1787 and 1790 in
North Carolina. He died Apr.24, 1864. He married Elizabeth Metcalf, b.
1793 in Tenn., d. June 10, 1876 in Missouri. They are buried in Centertown,
Mo., in Cole Co.
Their children are;
William C. Chambers, Jr. Jan.12, 1813, Tenn. - Mar.6, 1870, Cole Co., Mo.

John Nelson Chambers, b. Mar.7, 1837, d. Dec.1903, m. Mary R. Wells, Oct.11,
1855, Mo.
For the most part, the Chambers families made their living by farming.
They were respected, honest people who cherished their land and their good
name. They endeavored to be good neighbors, and participated in community
affairs.

I am looking for information on Alexander and David Chambers, two brothers
who founded A&DH Chambers glass manufacturers around 1850. The information
I have has them born in Ireland, Alexander in 1819, David in 1823.
Alexander married Martha Wightman (sister of Thomas Wightman, another glass
manufacturer) and had a daughter, Mary, who married John Agnew, another
glassmaker. John and Mary were my 2nd great grandparents. I have very
little information about David.
The 1850 census shows David living with James Chambers and a much younger
Alexander. I have no idea what the relationship was.
I would be very glad to share information with anyone who is also
researching this family.

Just found out that Norah Chambers (married Lendsey Hendrix in 1891) may
have been a sister of my ggf James C. Chambers. Norah was born in abt 1849
and James C. was b 1838 in Ga. James C. also had a brother William Joseph
(Joe) that moved to Texas. He came back to Georgia and married Mary Stiles
before the civil war and moved back to Texas. Can't seem to find him in
Texas in 1860. Maybe he detoured to somewhere else?
Does anyone recognize these names? I believe they may have had
connections around Rome Georgia or Griffin, Ga.
Thanks, Randy

Please accept my apologies for the forwarding of the "lump of coal" virus

importance of keeping the mailing lists free of such "spam." I am the list

Hi:
I contacted the list owner of a clans chat room and asked about the
chambers sept of the Clan Cameron.
Under separate email I will send you his replies.
I did as he suggested and went to the Scots Origins site for the
Registry and paid 16 lbs UK for 24 hours on the site.
I did find the marriage records of Robert Chambers. He was married to a
Marioun Cloggie on 6/30/1640 in the Falkirk District , UPR County of
Stirling. gro code 479, Gro code 6. For another 10lbs UK I could have gotten
an extract of the records. There was nothing on his or her birth or death.
There was no records I could find on Alexander or his son Reynold or his
son Edmund. They were born (supposedly) in Clyde River.
Take a look at the information that He sent me on the Chambers.
