Even though there were Chambers Families in the southeastern area of the
county and a Henry Chambers in the western area of Wilkes, no records reveal
the relationship between these early families and one Josiah Chambers who
does not appear in the county records until after 1800, and who lived in the
southeastern part of the county amongst the Sales, Denneys, Mayberrys &
Jennings and others who lived there.
There is a Josias Chambers in Wake Co, NC on the 1790 Federal Census above
16 years of age, living alone. There is a Josias Chambers with one male
26-45 and a female 26-45 on the 1800 Federal Census in Montgomery Co, NC.
In 1810 there is a Josias Chambers in the Wilkes Co, NC Federal Census with
two males under 10, one male over 45, 2 females under 10, 1 female 26-45.
In the 1820 Federal Census of Wilkes Josias Chambers listed 1 male under 10,
1 male 10-15, 1 male 16-26, 1 male over 45, 1 female under 10, 1
female10-16, 1 female over 45. In the 1830 Josiah listed 1 male 15-20, 1
male 70-80, 1 female 10-15, 1 female 20-30, 1 female 50-60. The 1840 census
is the same as the 1830 census for Josiah Chambers, except the 1 male 15-20
is missing. No explaination can be given for this listing.
