May I draw everyone's attention to the Chambers Y-DNA Project current being
run by Charlene Chambers in the USA. The project's homepage explains all and
shows the results it has to date:
http://freepages.family.rootsweb.com/~crrking/Chambers/chambers_dna.htm
The results thus far are interesting and seem to indicate that many Chambers
males are ultimately of Scandinavian (i.e. Viking) ancestry. Also there has
been a direct match between a Chambers and somebody with the surname
Chamberlain which partially destroys my long held belief that the two
surnames had independent origins.
I know that they are looking for more volunteers, especially from UK
Chambers (unfortunately the test only works on men).
On a personal note, I am researching the Chambers family of Swaffham Prior
parish in south Cambridgeshire (resident there from at least 1291 to the
1890s) and also the medieval origins (pre-1400) of the name. I would welcome
contact with anyone who is also looking into these matters.
