MUSCATINE, Iowa
Lyal V. Chamberlin, 76, of 505 W. Fulliam Ave., died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, in
Springfield, Mo., as a result of a car accident.
Services will be at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. The Rev. Dan Schoepf
of the Calvary Baptist Church will officiate. Pallbearers will be Tom Hammer, Steve
Hammer, Brian Hammer, Mark Evans, Jeff Evans and Ed Chamberlin. Burial will be in Oakdale
Cemetery in Wilton.
Memorials may be made to VA Hospital in Iowa City.
He was born on April 9, 1924, in Wilton, the son of Vern and Nettie Leota Chasteen
Chamberlin. He married Ruth E. Garmon on Aug. 21, 1945, in Muscatine.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in World War II.
He retired after 22 years with the Muscatine Fire Department. He was a member of the Moose
Lodge
and was an avid camper.
Survivors include one son, Albert Dean Chamberlin of Toolle, Utah; one daughter, L.
Christine Swank Hall of Muscatine; two granddaughters, Danese Lyn Swank and Heather Ann
Chamberlin, both of Muscatine; four brothers, Edward Chamberlin of Muscatine, Lynn
Chamberlin of Davenport, Mel Chamberlin of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Roy Chamberlin of
Davenport; and three sisters, Ruth Midkiff of Blue Grass, Rhea Abbott of Muscatine and
Lois Hills of Columbus Junction.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth in 1991; one daughter, Paulet; and
one brother, Albert.

DAVENPORT, Iowa
Roy W. Chamberlin, 71, Davenport, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, at Genesis Medical Center -
West Campus, Davenport.
Services are at Bentley Funeral Home, Wilton. The Rev. Darin Lovelace will officiate.
Musical selections will be provided by organist, Kathy Luethye, and vocalist, Henry
Bentley. Casket bearers are Chuck Carter, Bill Brendel, Mark Thompson, Rodney Swails,
Kevin Stichter, Dick Garmon and Matt Piet. Honorary casket bearers are John Bryant, Johnny
Fliss, Cal Yeager, Mary Yeager, and the Hy-Vee 39'ers Coffee Club. Burial will be at
Oakdale Cemetery, Wilton. After the burial, friends and family are invited to a gathering
at Shady Creek Campground Pavillion, Muscatine County.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the family.
He was born on April 12, 1933, in Muscatine, the son of Vernald and Gladys Barkalow
Chamberlin. He married Betty Trusell on Feb. 27, 1975, in Davenport. She preceded him in
death on Jan. 18, 1999.
He served in the National Guard from 1951-1954.
He retired in 1983 from Ralston Purina Co., Davenport.
He was an active member of the Hy-Vee 39'ers Coffee Club, Davenport. He enjoyed
camping, NASCAR, especially Jeff Gordon, the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Chicago Cubs. He was
well-known for his barbecued ribs and baked beans. He especially enjoyed spending time
with his granddaughter, Jessica Piet, and his other grandchildren to whom he was known as
the chocolate bar grandpa.
Survivors include a daughter, Lori Garmon and husband, Dan, of Muscatine; three sons, Doug
Chamberlin and Wayne Chamberlin and wife, Patti, all of Davenport, and Jeff Chamberlin and
wife, Leah, of Johnston; a stepson, Michael Gray of Oregon; three sisters, Ruth Midkiff
and husband, Gene, Rhea Abbott and Lois Hills, all of Muscatine; three brothers, Lynn
Chamberlin of Davenport, Ed Chamberlin of Muscatine and Melvin Chamberlin of Arizona; 12
grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Clarence Chamberlin and Lyle
Chamberlin.

MUSCATINE, Iowa
Wanda Lee Chamberlin, 81, of Muscatine, died Saturday, March 7, 2009, at home after a
short illness.
Memorial Visitation will be at the Jesus Mission, 509 Mulberry Avenue. After cremation,
burial will be in Scott Township Cemetery, Winfield, Iowa. The Ralph J.
Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
Wanda Lee Malone was born on August 4, 1927, in Vanita, Oklahoma, the daughter of Vernon
A. and Erma Faye Schenkle Malone. She married Clifford L. Chamberlin of Columbus Junction
on February 6, 1945.
Together they operated The Farmers Feed Store in Brighton, Iowa, for 18 years. For a
short period, they managed the Brighton Café, before their move to Homestead, Florida, in
1970. In Florida, she worked at Norman Brothers Produce of Miami for 20 years. In 1991,
she joined a daughter in Alvarado, Texas, where she worked for Southwest Color Graphics in
Keene, Texas, until her retirement at the age of 70.
After retirement, she enjoyed her flowers, her chickens, and watching birds. She returned
to Iowa, in November of 2008.
Survivors include three daughters, Phyllis Peck and husband, Jerome, of Alvarado, Texas,
Karen Puckett of Iowa City, and Sherry Sabin and husband, Dennis, of Muscatine; nine
grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and seven great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one sister, Lillian, one grandson, and one
great-grandson.
