Hi Julie - I see that despite our Email correspondence in the middle of June, I never
answered this
Ancestry.com posting of yours with several questions. I have Mary Ellen
Riley's death listed as 13 Feb 1899, probably in Marion, Linn Co., Iowa. My research
notes state that Ellen had remarried a G. H. Neodles, 13 Nov 1876, who had some children -
her sons Charles and James were living with them. Surname spelled Needles per her
gravestone in Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion, Linn Co., IA, per photo sent to JBP by Tody
Chamberlain: "Ellen Chamberlain Needles. Feb. 15, 1835, Feb. 13, 1899." Toby
also forwarded a photocopy of her obit., from the Linn Co., IA Gen. Soc. files, dated
Wed., 15 Feb 1899: "The funeral services of Mrs. G. H. Needles, who died at her home
in Kenwood Monday at 2 a.m., of paralysis, will be held at the family residence tomorrow
at 11 o'clock, and will be conducted by Rev. Walter Reynolds, pastor of the
Presbyterian church in this city. Interment will be in!
the Marion Oak Shade cemetery." Toby also sent to Iowa for her death certificate
but the reply was that the certificate is not on file.
James Phillip Chamberlain, brother of Oscar, died, 7 Sep 1926, Sherman Twp.,
Leavenworth Co., Kansas. He married Alice Laquire, born c1863, died 9 Mar 1889, Bertram
Twp., Linn Co., Iowa, with one child born to them: Harry Daniel Chamberlain, b. 8 Feb
1887, Bertram Twp., died 12 Sep 1972, Marysville, Marshall Co., Kansas. The death
certificate lists James as a widower, age 64, occupation farming, born Ohio, father's
name and birth place unknown; mother, Ellen Riley, born Ireland, informant: Harry
Chamberlain of Linwood, Kansas: place of burial or cremation: Lenape, Sept. 9, 1926;
Undertaker: Baker. Let me know is you wish to learn more about Harry and his wife, 7
children & descendants, one of whom is his grandson, Toby Lee Chamberlain. In 1880,
James was living with his brother Charles and his mother who had remarried G. H. Neodles.
The James in Kansas City in 1910 is evidently someone else - 10 years younger.
