I've been corresponding with Lisa Chamberlin O'Sullivan each year since 2008, most
lately about her earnest desire to identify more of her family photos. For the benefit of
other researchers, this is James Madison "Mattus" Chamberlin, born 25 Aug 1841,
NY, died 28 Dec 1920, West Concord, Dodge Co., MN, who was married 28 Jul 1866, in Paw
Paw, Van Buren Co., MI, to Lucy Jane Butterfield, born 10 May 1842, Alamo, Kalamazoo Co.,
MI, died 9 Dec 1914, Taopi, Mower Co., MN, daughter of Ephraim & Phebe (Johnson)
Butterfield. 5 children are recorded for James & Lucy and at least six (in census
data) are listed for Lucy's brother, Charles Asa Butterfield, who married Delia
Chamberlin, born Jan 1848, NY. Jane and Delia are 2 of 10 known children of Chester B.
Chamberlin, b. 6 Feb 1816, Strafford, Orange Co., VT, d. 21 Apr 1901, South Haven, Van
Buren Co., MI, who was married about 1838, in Franklin Co., NY, to Olive Pierce
(c1818-after 1860); Chester's second wife was Lucy L. Farme!
r (c1818-after 1880), married 10 Sep 1878, Arlington, Van Buren Co., MI. The ancestral
line of descent is listed here as Amasa Jr. (1775-1861); Amasa (1748-1826); William Jr.
(1712-1775); William (1689-1756); Joseph (c1665-1752), William (c1623-1678); Henry
(c1592-1674) - the oldest of the five original Ch'n immigrant ancestors in early New
England. Anyone wishing to share information or learn more about this Ch'n line is
invited to contact me, James B. Parker, via Email: at jbparker(a)provide.net.
