I am the RootsWeb obituary look-up volunteer for the Morning Call newspaper of Allentown,
Pennsylvania. On May 1, 2005, someone named Vonnie, using the e-mail address y-me(a)pa.net,
asked for the obituaries of his grandparents, John T. & Teresa Virginia (Messimer)
Chamberlin, who died in the 1934/1935 time period. Since the index for that newspaper is
still a work-in-progress, I only recently found John T. That obituary is listed below, in
case it's of interest to anyone else. Or in case Vonnie keeps an eye on this board.

The inseparableness between husband and wife through more than a score of years followed
Mr. and Mrs. John T. Chamberlin, of 1121 Allen street, into death and both will be buried
at a double funeral Monday afternoon. Unable to face life without the companionship of
his wife, Theresa Messimer Chamberlin, who died at the Haff hospital Wednesday night, Mr.
Chamberlin, who was 45 years of age, ended his own life yesterday by means of inhaling
carbon monoxide gas in the garage at the rear of the family residence. He was dead when
discovered by his 21-year-old daughter Violet about 2.30 o'clock yesterday afternoon.
All during their married life, Mr. and Mrs. Chamberlin had enjoyed the highest degree of
companionship and the greatest of love for one another. When Mrs. Chamberlin was operated
upon little more than a week ago, her husband was nearly driven to distraction, and when
she died last Wednesday night, the shock was too great for him to bear. Yesterday morning
he bade h!
is daughter goodby, informing her he intended to motor out of town to visit a friend.
She had expected him home by noon and went about preparing his noon-day meal. Her father
failed to appear, however, and finally at about 2.30 she went to the garage to see whether
he might have brought the automobile back and gone off somewhere afoot. Upon opening the
garage door, Violet was confronted by a cloud of fumes emanating from the running motor,
and her father, overcome by the fumes, seated in the car. She spread the alarm and
medical aid was summoned. Mr. Chamberlin was declared dead and Coroner A. M. Peters,
M.D., notified. Dr. Joseph Lieberman, deputy coroner, issued a certificate of death. Mr.
Chamberlin was born at Lewistown, a son of Mr. and Mrs. William Chamberlin. About eleven
years ago, he, his wife and daughter came to this city and resided here since. He was a
silk weaver by trade and as such was employed in the mill of the S. M. S. Silk company.
He was a mem!
ber of the Ebenezer Evangelical church. Besides his parents, who stil
l reside at Lewistown, Mr. Chamberlin is survived by his daughter, Violet, two brothers,
Victor and Billy Chamberlin, both of Lewistown, and five sisters, Mrs. Rosa Kandall, of
New York City; Mrs. John Lytle, of Progress; Mrs. George Blair and Mrs. Elsie Cott, of
Lewistown, and Helen, of New York City. The double funeral will be held Monday afternoon
at 2 o'clock with services at the funeral home of E. B. Zimmerman, 818 Walnut Street,
Rev. Paul R. Wert officiating. Interment will be made in the Arlington cemetery at
Mickleys. Friends may call at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 9 o'clock.
