Yes, Julie, I received your Email and will reply to it next via Email. The infant listed
in July 1860, aged 1 month, is evidently Oscar's younger brother, James Phillip
Chamberlain, born Jun 1860, Marion, Linn Co., IA - I don't know where Oscar W. was at
the time - not listed in the 1860 census, evidently - perhaps skipped by the census
enumerator or living elsewhere. Their father, Henry Melville Chamberlain probably died 31
Dec 1860, that year [some confusion about this], and Ellen and other family members are
listed in 1870 in Marion, Linn Co., IA, as I showed in my posting. The Oscar W.
Chamberlin of the same age 11 listed in China Twp., Franklin, Lee Co., IL is probably
someone else. There is yet another Oscar W. Chamberlain of this same age also living in
Iowa - born 27 Jan 1859, Johnson Co., IA, d. 2 Feb 1904, probably in Victory Twp., Guthrie
Co., IA, son of Stephen Smith Chamberlin and Sarah A. Haughtelin of Franklin Twp., Adams
Co., PA & Cass Twp., Guthrie Co., !
PA - descendants of Henry(1) Chamberlin - let me know if you need information on this
other Charles W. & his family for any reason. Here is the 1860 census listing for
this family:
- 1860 Census, Cass Twp., Guthrie Co., IA, Stephen S. Chamberlain, p. 297, #113/109, 12
Jun 1860, age 27, farmer, $1000/$300, b. PA; Sarah, age 21, b. PA; Dayton P., age 3, b.
IA; Oscar W., age 1, b. IA
Curiously, Stephen Smith Ch'n also died in 1860 - on Dec. 16.
