Hello Louise,
Thanks for responding. I appreciate it.
I already have copies of the Miles journal as well as that of your ancestor. How
interesting that we both had g-g-grandfathers on that wagon train, and that both of them
created journals. That's pretty neat!
My ancestor's work is still not been published as I have hit some snags that stopped
its development. I hope to correct that situation this year.
The Chamberlains are represented by different spellings of their name in different
sources, but the way I have spelled it in this sentence is the correct one (not
Chamberlin). I had hoped to connect with as many families as I could from those mentioned
directly in my David Cooper's memoir. While I have had no luck finding any
representatives of the Chamberlain family in question, I have discovered some facts.
A very helpful James Parker responded on another message board with the following
information that he has confirmed. He states, "This is Crowell(6) Chamberlain, b. 26
Jan 1800, Danville, Caledonia Co., VT, who was married in 1824 in Waterford, to Clarissa
Holbrook (c1798-after 1850), with three known children: Maria?, b. c1827; Harvey H., b.
c1830, and Elizabeth, b. c1838."
So Harry, who died on the 1850 wagon train, was apparently actually named Harvey. Perhaps
his middle name was Harold, but the more likely scenario is that his name was simply
garbled originally in records of the wagon train.
If you would like to communicate further, or have any other information to contribute,
please feel free to contact me directly. I think that's still possible through this
site.
