Marjorie L. Chamberlin, b. about 1924, San Jose, CA, is 1 of 5 known children of Allen
Burr Chamberlin, b. 10 Sep 1872, Starbuckville, Warren Co., NY, d. 29 Aug 1953, Santa
Clara or San Jose, CA, who was married, 24 Dec 1898 in San Francisco, to Rose Mespelt, b.
5 Feb 1875, Burlington, IA, d. 28 Oct 1958, Santa Clara or San Jose, CA. The ancestral
line of descent is: Dr. Chester Usher (1849-1919); Rev. Chester (1807-1875); Benjamin
(1771-1812); Benjamin (1742-1810); John Jr. (ca1715-1802); John (1686-after 1758);
Benjamin (ca1653-1737); Richard (ca1618-1673) - one of the five original Chamberlain
immigrant ancestors in early New England. I maintain a detailed lineage here for all
known descendants of Richard(1), including the family you have identified. Refer to the
formally prepared Family Group Records in the website of the World Chamberlain
Genealogical Society, wherein Dr. Chester Usher Chamberlin is identified as LN#6030 - he
happerns to be a second cousin, once remo!
ved, of my own grandmother, Cynthia Ellen Chamberlin Hayes, by the way - she and her
husband moved from Michigan to Fontana, California about 1929, but I have no reason to
think she knew members of your family. My research notes for Chester Usher Ch'n refer
to your 27 Feb 2005
Ancestry.com posting, I see. Here are my research notes for him:
NOTES
LN#6030. Aged one year at the time of the 1850 Census. Not listed in IGI records. Ref.
Ancestry.com Chamberlain Message Board posting, dated 27 Feb 2005, by David Upton [Email:
dupton(a)bak.rr.com ], providing information about this family and its descendants, as
shown here, with the surname of Chamberlin instead of Chamberlain.
"A graduate of Albany Medical College, Dr. Chester U. Chamberlin opened his
practice in Chestertown, New York in the early 1870s. His father performed the marriage to
Sarah Potter there in 1871. I found a census with Chester living with his sister Hannah
and her husband Waite Mead in Chester in 1870. I found him again on the 1880 census in
Hartford, Washington, New York and in 1888 he moved to Albany, Oregon and later in 1899 he
moved to California.
I found the records of the St. Johns Cemetery in Greenfield, New York. On this record
are many Chamberlins; Champion M. Chamberlin, Juliette Wood Chamberlin, etc. There is also
a Rev. Luther Chamberlin...how is he related? Rev. Chester Chamberlin and his family did
live in Chester according to the 1860 census."
Per Kristin Barberia, his obituary states, "Dr. Chamberlin was a graduate of
Albany Medical College. He began his practice of medicine in Chestertown, NY, in 1870.
On September 17, 1871, married Sarah Potter by the Rev. Chester Chamberlin at Chestertown,
NY. In 1888, moved to Albany, OR. He lived for 20 years in California, the last 14 in
Los Gatos. The family home is at 46 Los Gatos Blvd., Los Gatos." My
grandmother's ancestor, Dr. Joseph Fitch Chamberlin (1804-1890), was also a graduate
of Albany Medical College, but in 1826 - much earlier than Marjorie's ancestor.
- 1870 Census, Chester, Warren Co., NY, p. 553, Chester Chamberlain, age 21, b. NY -
living with his sister Hannah and her husband Waite Mead in Chester, per David Upton
- 1880 Census, Hartford, Washington Co., NY, p. 290A, Chester U. Chamberlin, head, doctor,
NY/MA/NY; Sarah A., wife, age 27, keeps house, NY/NY/VT; Allen B., son, age 7, at school,
NY/NY/NY; Winnie E., dau., age 3, VT/NY/NY
END OF NOTES
Please contact me, James B. Parker, at jbparker(a)provide.net, via Email if you wish to
discuss this information in greater detail. I suppose your recent posting is asking about
the current whereabouts of Marjorie L. Chamberlin - I can't help you with this,
I'm afraid.
