1850 census, Sparta, Sussex Co, NJ has Hiram Chamberlain, 30, Bloomer, Delia
Ann 29, Mahlon 7, Liltha, 6, Absalom 3, Mary 2.
1860 census, Byram Township, Sussex Co, NJ has Delia Chamberlain, 38, Amelia
4, James 3 or 5 months.
"Descendants of Benjamin Chamberlain" (for what it is worth) on page 40
lists Hiram and says he married Delia Ann Flatt ("family legend" confirms
this marriage) but the rest of the information concerning Hiram is to say
the least 'suspect'. It states he ran a hotel in Carbondale, Pa. I have
not been able to prove or disprove that but he is among the missing in the
1860 census that I have searched.
My connection is Amelia (my husband's great grandmother) who married George
Elmer Slaght and lived and is buried in Newton, NJ.
Ancestry has this information (like Topsy, it appears to have just appeared
with no notation as to where or whom it came from): William Mahlon
Chamberlain b 1841 Miltton NJ, d 1906 and was married to Lottie F. Latson b
1848. However, this William Mahlon could easily be the Mahlon age 7 in the
1850 census (above). This, of course, could be the brother to Amelia.
If anyone has any information that can help me try to untangle this puzzle I
would appreciate it.
NJ marriage records shows Delian Chamberlain, age 64, a widow of Greene,NJ,

1870 census Green Township Sussex Co, NJ has Jepthe Denee? Dence? 70, Delia

1880 census, Green Township, Sussex Co, NJ,(living alone Delia Denee?Dence?

I have the death certificate for Amelia Sarah Chamberlin. She died 9/2/1949
and is buried in Newton Cemetery, Newton. NJ . Her husband of 70 years
George Elmer Slaght, died three months after Amelia died..
Any information or suggestions that might help me put this family together
would be most appreciated.
