I spent about two hours searching in my extensive Chamberland/lain/lin records here, in
census records (I didn't locate Mary Albina in the 1880 U. S. Census), in the LDS-IGI,
and other locations on the Internet, and made some progress, but you will have to complete
the search I started, since I've run out of time, and more needs to be done. Here is
my transcription of the the 1930 Census listing (in
Ancestry.com), which clearly
identifies this family:
- 1930 Census, Belmont Town, Middlesex Co., MA, p. ?, #48 White Ave., #160/239, 9 Apr
1930, Arthur Delaurier, age 64, father-in-law, widowed, foreman - soda fountain,
CAN-French/CAN-French/CAN-French, ethnic French, immigrated 1883; listed in household of
Anthony J. Sevigny, head, age 32, $45, plaster estimator - building,
MA/CAN-French/CAN-French; Alice, wife, age 31, MA/CAN-French/CAN-French; Donald E., son,
age 7, MA/MA/MA; Robert U?, age 3 4/12, MA/MA/MA; Dorothy F., dau., age 1 6/12, MA/MA/MA;
Jeanne?, dau., age 5/12, MA. This family living with #160/328, Philip S. Jackson, head,
age 37, b. MA; Marguerite?, wife, age 34, Can-English, and their 3 children (who may or
may not be related). As you can see, Mary Albina died sometime before 1930, probably
right there in Belmont, but she could have died much earlier somewhere else in MA.
I wasn't able to complete my search of 1900, 1910 and 1920 census records, but
you can do this for yourself. Arthur is probably the individual listed in 1910 as
follows:
- 1910 Census Index, Cambridge 6th Ward, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts, Roll 596, part 3,
p. 86B, age 44, b. ?
As you can see from this information, Arthur DeLaurier was born in Canada (French)
c1866, and came to the U. S. in 1883 (perhaps with other members of his family since he
was only age 17). Assuming he became naturalized, later on, you can/should obtain this
record. So, he wouldn't appear in the 1880 census in the U. S., but he sould indeed
appear in the 1881 census in Canada, age about 15, where you should be able to locate him
in his family on the LDS Family Search site online. You said he was married in 1891 -
probably in MA, though he could have returned to Canada for his bride, or elsewhere in New
England or perhaps in New York State. When you locate him and his family in the 1881
Census in Canada, you can check throughout that general location for any Chamberlands, and
maybe spot Mary Albina right away. Maybe later on I'll have time to do this search
online for myself, but it would be a lot easier if you first determined whether she was
Canadian, or not, and!
about when she was born.
SSDI records list son Arthur Alphonse DeLaurier's birth, 14 Oct 1891, MA, d.
Nov 1968 in Belmont, MA, and the census indicates that your grandmother, Alice Georgianna
DeLaurier, was born c1899, in MA. Probably your mother knows her actual birth date and
place. If you have not already done so, you can obtain Alice's actual birth record
there in MA, which will list some data for her parents - very important to obtain this
record. So, by collecting birth, marriage, death, burial and obituary records for all of
these persons, you will no doubt come up with additional identifying information. Most
importantly, you need to learn exactly when and where Arthur & Mary Albina were
married (obtain their actual marriage record there in MA, if possible) and where/when they
died and were buried, and collect all available information on them that you possibly can
that way. Once you learn about when and where Mary Albina Chamberland was born, I can
probably help you some more. !
If you have any questions about any of this, please do contact me now by Email:
<jbparker(a)provide.net>. I am not related to any Chamberland, but as one of the
founders of the World Chamberlain Genealogical Society, and an avid Chamberlain
researcher, I can probably help you more, as you yourself collect more information about
this family.
