Dear Dawn, thanks for your note and I have again read your Email of
3-4-03. My mother's notes made fifty years ago, and certainly
undocumented, were based on a letter dated Feb 1943 from her mother,
Mary F. White Palmer. Mary's letter says that Eve Shepler and her
husband were both in the American Revolution. These things need to be
verified. Mary was knowledgeable, and a member of Mayflower Soc., & DAR.
What little she says, and not documented or researched that I have found
is:
1) Peter Withington marr. Anne Boone (Bone?) and was descended from Dick
Withington, Lord Mayor of London.
2) Peter Withington, b. May 11, 1712, Frawley, Eng., d. Feb 19, 1732/33.
(Eng. Or US?). He married to Jenny (or Jane) Houchin.
3) their son (were there other children?) Peter Withington b. Frawley
Jan 17, 1733, came to US (with parents? when?), and married Eva Shepler.
They lived in PA. This lady certainly could be Eva Albert or Eva Albert
Shepler, or Schepler. MFWP notes say that Peter & Eva were both in the
American Revolution . . . . At one time I had an Email Phildebr which
gave her name: Eva Christina Albert, m. 1759, d. after 1827, Miflinburg,
PA.
4) Their son, Peter Withington marr. b. 1768, marr. Esther Chamberlain.
I have a beautiful Sampler made by Esther as a young girl, and it is
dated 1792. I have thus presumed Esther was b. ca 1770-80, which would
agree with birth of her two daughters in 1807 & 1809.
5) Daughters: Charlotte Withington (1807-1884) marr. Peter Oliphant; Eve
Marie Withington (1809-1875) marr. Henry M. Reifsnyder
Others have noted that possibly P.W.s wife was not Eva Shelper
(Schepler), and that the DAR records are wrong, and in fact P.W. wife
was Eva Albert . . . . and that Eva Albert's father died before she was
married, and that there is a file re Orphan's Court info, a baptism
record, and info of her mother's death.
At this point I can ad little more info. So the search goes on! As
always . . . forever . . . Peter Burrows, Annapolis, MD

Subject: Evelyn Shepler
Hi,
I still don't have anything to contribute, but I still carry two
colonial Shepler women in the back of my mind. One is Margaretha who
married a Brickley and your Evelyn is the other one. Both out of Berks
County????? Anyway, this is a plea asking that if you ever do learn
which Shepler family she connects to, please, please let me know. Dawn
Shepler Deaner.
