Hello,
I belonged to this List for a short time in past years, and seemingly not since. I just
checked the archives, and I still seem to be the only one interested in the CHAMBERLAIN
families of 1600's Chelmsford, MA.
My main research of 20+ yrs. is on the KIDDER name, and I have a lot of information on my
line of ancestors, down to my grandmother, Clarissa KIDDER of Winchester, MA. One of
the families I've had problems find more on is that of Joseph KIDDER, of Chelmsford
and Westford, MA, who married Rebecca CHAMBERLAIN in 1652 in one or both towns. There
is a good "KIDDER book," but unfortunately it lists Joseph's wife as Rebecca
Wilder CHAMBERLAIN. That is wrong. That was .sort of .. her mother's name. Her
mother was born Rebecca WILDER in Hingham, MA, and she had 2 marriages. It was her 2nd
marriage which was to Samuel CHAMBERLAIN of Chelmsford. And that was his 2nd marriage
(he possibly had 2 more).
There were 3 CHAMBERLAIN brothers who arrived in MA and William settled in Billerica,
MA, and William and Rebecca had at least a dozen children. Thomas settled in
Chelmsford, and there is ..very little .. on his family.
An excellent researcher on the Boards at
www.genforum.com has offered the best
information I've found on-line. He said that this Thomas had several wives, and
they included 2 women, named Mary PARKER. The first Mary PARKER seems to have come from
England, and he says they had 5 children. One of their sons was Samuel CHAMBERLAIN,
b~1645 Woburn, MA. I'm not finding much on-line about this Samuel, but he had a
son, Samuel, b~1685, who was my ancestor. He's the one who married Mrs. Rebecca
(WILDER) WHITCOMB.
Thomas in Chelmsford had a 2nd wife, Mary POPE or JONES, and no children from that
marriage. Both he and a book I have state that she was actually .. Mrs. Mary (POPE or
JONES) (POULTER) PARKER. (the 2nd Mary PARKER). (This small book "Pioneers of
Billerica," states that Mary had a brief marriage to an AYLETT, and she was Mrs.
AYLETT when she married John PARKER. So, she was Mrs. (POPE??) (POULTER) (AYLETT) PARKER
when she married Thomas CHAMBERLAIN in 1674 in Chelmsford..
I read on-line that Samuel, b1745, Woburn, only had one wife, Elizabeth EMERSON.
Don't know how many children they had. Their son, Samuel, b1685 Chelmsford seems
to have had 3 wives and possibly a 4th. With Anna GILSON, 6 children, with Mrs. Rebecca
(WILDER) >>> PARKER, he had 5 children, and then there was a Sybil ROPER -
because Rebecca died ~1730.
(I noticed there is a book about the William CHAMBERLAIN of Billerica, but not even
seeing a document on Thomas of Chelmsford.

(Joseph and Rebecca KIDDER had 9 children and their first was son, Wilder KIDDER. I was
reminded this weekend that she also had an uncle, named Wilder CHAMBERLAIN.)
(FYI: The Boards at
www.GenForum.com will become "READ-ONLY" in
September !
