I'd actually found "the bairns" myself this evening, but it's nice to
have it confirmed!
There is one more child that I know of - a James, who I first spotted on the 1881 census.
His date of birth predates James and Janet's marriage by five years, and a kindly
researcher found details of his birth (to Janet Bisset) at Panbride, Angus, on 27th July,
1855. I assume James Chalmers was the father - at least, the younger James had the
surname "Chalmers" by the time of the 1881 census!
I agree that the second names "McKenzie" and "Parker" may well be very
useful, especially if the Perthshire records are as poor as you say! I may indeed have to
invest more money in a marriage certificate for James and Janet, though my husband may
take some persuading! I've still got my "Tosh"'s to find, and I get the
feeling that's going to be even more expensive and problematic!
