Hi Sue,
Jessie would quite probably be used for Janet. Maybe Janet's mother's name was
also Janet - so to differentiate, Janet the younger might have become Jessie. It is a
common name in Scotland for Janet.
Here's more informataion for you from the LDS web site - family of James C. and Janet
Bissett shows up as:
1. William CHALMERS - International Genealogical Index
Gender: M Birth: 27 Dec 1863 Dundee, Angus, Scotland
2. Helen CHALMERS - International Genealogical Index
Gender: F Birth: 30 Jul 1865 Dundee, Angus, Scotland
3. Janet CHALMERS - International Genealogical Index
Gender: F Birth: 11 Jan 1867 Dundee, Angus, Scotland
4. Thomas CHALMERS - International Genealogical Index
Gender: M Birth: 18 Nov 1868 Dundee, Angus, Scotland
5. David Mckenzie CHALMERS - International Genealogical Index
Gender: M Birth: 4 Mar 1871 Dundee, Angus, Scotland
6. Mary Parker CHALMERS - International Genealogical Index
Gender: F Birth: 19 Jun 1872 Dundee, Angus, Scotland
The middle names of the last two children may be a pointer to look for the parents of
James and Janet as middle names. (I am John Gibson Chalmers - my mothers maiden name was
Gibson)
I looked for all James C. b. Perth 1836 +/- 2 years, but could not pinpoint your James.
Here is the couples' marriage:
James CHALMERS
Sex: M
Marriage(s):
Spouse: Janet BISSET
Marriage: 20 Feb 1861
Monifieth, Angus, Scotland
As statutary records started 1855 in Scotland, you should be able to get the parents of
both James and Janet from the marriage record above! That will put you back another
generation - but from now on it will all be luck. I know from experience - Perth records
are very poor!
