Subject: [LKS] Chalmers and McGill Stonemasons

Hi, Does anyone have a Glasgow Trade Directory and could look up the above
building and stonemasons. The full title was David Chalmers and McGill
and if there was any information about either of the principals I would
be very interested as David Chalmers was my grandfather. I know that the
firm was functioning in 1927 and up until the mid 1950's as far as I know.

Hi Patricia,
I was interested to see the name David Chalmers as a builder. My uncle,
also David Chalmers, was the last of five generations of builders and
slaters - all with the name David - who plied their trade in Kinross.
I have an old Trades Directory (that came from my uncles house), but it
is for 1967 - so later than the period you are interested in. There is
no Chalmers & McGill, but there's a M'Gill R & Sons Ltd 94 Crowpoint
Road in Glasgow.
The first of my five David's was born in 1795 and had eleven children.
Three of his sons moved to Glasgow and some of his grandchildren also
moved there. Some of his family who moved to Glasgow also worked in the
building trade.
You can see most of what I know of them at:

I am in contact with a number of Davids (1795) descendants two of whom
(and their families) are in the USA. There are still some of them
living in Kinross.

I would be very interested to learn more of your own Chalmers family.
