Found this in a Scottish surname book at LDS..
CHALMERS: One of the clan Cameron going to France, put his name into Latin
dress by calling himself Camerario, which in french is de la Chambre; upon
his return home he was according to Scottish dialect, called Chalmers. The
arms of the family were cut on stone and wood in St. Nicholas' church at
Aberdeen, with the dates 1313 and 1413...
I recently had this tree sent to me:

his son? John CHALMERS of Troquhain m. 1576 Marion Bannatyne
his son? Andrew CHALMERS
his son? Andrew CHALMERS of Waterside
? James Chalmers in Park (1636) and/or James Chalmers in Knockman (1673)
his James Chalmers in Knockman's daughter Bessie Chalmers, 2nd wife of
William McClamroch of Craigenbay
their son John McClamroch (c.1713-?) m Margaret McMillan
they had one daughter Margaret 1744 and six sons John 1745, George 1751,
William 1753, Robert 1755?, James 1761, and Thomas 1763
- I'm sure how reliable this is but I do know of Chalmers of GADGIRTH
in AYrshire:
- from the Troon and District FHS regarding the name CHALMERS:
<SNIP>
GADGIRTH CASTLE was of great antiquity and was replaced with a manor
house in 1808. Gadgirth was the seat of the CHALMERS family who can be
traced back to the 12th century. They were active in the Reformation and
supporters of JOHN KNOX who dispended the sacrament there.
The BURNETT family inherited Gadgirth through marriage into the CHALMERS
family. It was Colonel BURNETT who built the new mansion house.
<SNIP>
- gives us all something to aim for.....
