Hello John and all;
Hi Michelle,
I haven't much on my CHALMERS.
- I think you have!
Alexander CHALMERS was born in 1866 (somewhere in Scotland presumably)
according to a family bible. His wife was Mary SPENCE b. 1825. I have been
unable to find their marriage on Scots Origins. Perhaps they were married
somewhere else.
I assume that's 1826 - not 1866!
I can see one couple that might fit the bill in the 1881 census:
Living at 22 Maule St., St. Vigeans, Forfar
Alexander Chalmers aged 58 b. St. Vigeans (a power loom canvas weaver)
Mary Chalmers aged 54 b. Kinnell, Forfar (spinner in Flax Mill)
- but that doesn't quite fit the ages you have! - and it is possible
both have died by 1881.
They had at least one child,
1. Elizabeth Hardie CHALMERS, born 1840 at 41 Backbrae Street, Kilsyth,
Stirlingshire.
Elizabeth Hardie CHALMERS married John STEVENSON in Polmont, Stirlingshire
and they lived in Kilsyth....children
1. Mary STEVENSON b. 1867
2. Elizabeth Chalmers STEVENSON b. 1878
3. Alexander STEVENSON, b. 1874.
I can see this family in the 1881 census living at Auchinstarry in
Cumbernauld. JOhn (aged 34 was b. Kilsyth also and his occupation given
as Engineer.
- with the three children you have above:
Nary b. Kilsyth, Alex. b. Kilsyth and Elisabeth b. Glasgow
Elizabeth Chalmers STEVENSON married Samuel RITCHIE and came to Canada. She
was my Great Grandmother. "Chalmers" continued to be a middle name.
